  • This Season's Schedule Quirks

Looking at the schedule because of the quick rematch with sCUm in only a week and realized some oddities in the schedule ...

Shocks are done with sCUm, IllSt, and Drake before they ever play Evansville or SIU.

I read somewhere where the Valley said the like at least 13 days between return matchups. I'll call BS on that one - not only do we play sCUm after only 1 week, we also play Evansville after only 8 days. Each rematch has just 1 game between. This one is dumb. If a team has injuries or other issues that hamper player(s) for a few games, the other gets an advantage not afforded to the rest of the league. The WSU vs. BU games are 1/3/10 and 2/24/10 - the other extreme.

The home finale vs SIU is the first time since 2006 that WSU has played their season finale at home. The last 3 season finales have been @SIU, @sCUm, and @Drake and the Shocks lost all 3. This is also wrong. We better get 3 home season finale's in a row.

No real point here, but whoever makes the schedule needs to lay off the Jägermeister.

Not that looking ahead is a good idea, but the final 6 games: InSt, @EU, MoSt, EU, @BU, SIU will afford the Shocks the chance to close strong.

'85, the biggest problem is too many half-assed programs rent. This causes all kinds of issues when scheduling.

Except: it's really not that funny. It's kinda sad.

half-assed? I can think of one program that rents its home arena and it is the greatest place on earth to play a game of basketball ever built. Just ask them, they will tell you.

Everyone else is just jealous that another in-state team can't play a game at their own arena.

I believe Bradley and Evansville also rent, correct?

As WuDrWu pointed out, when there are scheduling conflicts with those arenas, it drives the MVC schedule changes.

Especially if the Valley team isn't considered the "prime" tenant. I think technically MoSt "rents" JQH, but are probably considered the prime tenant (unlike Hammons Field for baseball where the AA Cardinals rule the roost). Maybe I'm wrong and JGH is MoSt property, but I sure thought their new place is a city facility.

Bradley, sCUm, and Evansville use off-campus facilities.

IIRC, JQH Arena is pretty much in the middle of campus.

Working in public facilities is offered as an excuse, but IMO a weak one. These off-campus facilities aren't over-booked by any measure. Qwest had 3 days in Dec. of non-athletic events and only 5 events that weren't sCUm basketball; 3 events in Jan (plus 4 days UNO hockey). Feb. has 2 concerts, UNO hockey, and state wrestling with 3 Saturdays double booked. There isn't much of anything scheduled at the Evansville Arena, and in Peoria it is hard to tell, because their facility is sort of like Century II with other venues (theater, expo hall) at the same site and no separate arena schedule I could find.

I'll repeat, lay off the Jägermeister.

HSC is their old barn. The JQH arena is next door, but brand new. The Bares are prime tenant I'm sure, though.
