  • Valley Stats

In reviewing the Team Stats for the Valley, it is amazing to see the Shox in either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in every kind of offensive and defensive stat with the exception of 3 Point shooting and Blocked Shots (4th in blocked shots).

Take a look if you're interested.

Also, in the individual stats, I could not help but notice that Garrett Stutz is 4th in offensive rebounds. This for a player averaging only 16.3 minutes per game.

While those are the overall season stats, here are the stats for conference games only.

We need to get to the line more often! We're way down the list in terms of free throw attempts in conference.

Maybe you should ask GS how much physical contact he has to endure to get sent to the free throw line. And then on the other end, he breathes on his man and gets whistled. The refs have something to do with this discrepancy.

I'm glad someone else saw this....I don't like to be a conspiracy guy, but we get the ball in the paint far too often to be defficient in our FT attempts vs smaller, thinner, less aggressive and more willing to shoot from outside other valley teams.

I understand three of the teams above us are counting 6 games vs our 5, but still.

I see it to. I have been chalking it up that I am to much of homer, but there is something to it if other are seeing it.

Especially when you consider we've had the lead at the end of most of those games.

                1. Being bigger, stronger and more athletic than most of the competition
                2. Being ahead 90% of the time.
                3. Being at least as good %wise shooting FT
                4. Being adamant about getting the ball into the post offensively (more so than the opposition).
                5. Being ahead at the end of the game when the other team is trying to catch up, 80% of the time.
                6. To date, playing 60% of the time at home where there is an undeniable discrepancy in FT attempts over time.

That combination rarely combines for a fewer than your opponents FT attempts.

I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

Not to be contrary, but our post players shoot a lot of fade-away jumpers and jump-hooks, which aren't as prone to drawing fouls as taking it right to the defender.

And with our defensive aggressiveness, we are going to naturally get called for more fouls.

For the most part, MVC teams have not elected to employ the foul strategy at the end of our games. Having so many good FT shooters probably plays into that.

I'm not ready to allege conspiracy quite yet.

By the same token, we haven't had to employ the foul strategy either, thus falsely driving our numbers up.

Would like to see the breakdown as it relates to offensive off ball fouls.
