How the heck did MSU pick up a vote in the AP?

So let me get this straight. We pretty much own MSU in Springfield, hang on for the win. Then win at home against Creighton..

.. but we get no votes and magically MSU picks up a vote?

        :-x

Well, we're gonna have to make some noise these next 3 games for any consideration apparently.

        ... No really, deuces.

Maybe there's a voter in Alaska or Idaho who gets their sports news a week later.

Question? How many teams in the present top 25 have MVC teams beaten? Granted they don't get the opportunity to play them, but that is not a concern to the voters. We will only get noticed once we win a few games in the tournament. NOTE - Our ranking the year after the last time we went the tournament. We will have our chance in Maui next year to climb up the latter.

after 2 losses to unranked teams, we'll have to win our next 4 or 5 in a row to start getting votes again.

Texas Tech is not helping us out. Just no respect for the Valley this year, with the bottom 4 teams under .500 overall.

I don't know about that. They won at both Syracuse (to give Syracuse their first loss of the year) and Cincinnati. I think they would be ranked a little lower if they had been beaten by us, but they would likely have the same number of losses, since they played Texas by beating us, and would have got Iowa if they had lost.

                          Hmm, that's a little annoying.

At this point, it would appear that the best case scenario for the Shockers (in regards to the polls) is for UNI to take care of business in their home stand.

That should put them in the top 25.

The Shockers have to prove their mettle and put down ISU blue and Creighton on the road to be in the discussion. That will make us 5-1 on the road and 17-2 overall going into the game against UNI at the Chuck.

Against what should be a top 25 team on ESPNU, a Shocker victory puts them in the top 25 and in contention for the Valley title.

Looking at the end of the Valley schedule for WSU and UNI, I don't see another scenario where a Valley team can make it in the rankings if the current stonewalling continues.

It is not at all surprising. We have 12 of our 14 wins against teams with losing records. Not exactly overwhelming.

We just need to do well in the MVC, and that means beating the top tier teams on the road.
