    Some Observations from Wednesday's Action

Gregg Marshall has quietly put together quite a team at Wichita State. The Shockers are back to being a contender like they were under Mark Turgeon in his final two seasons. Wichita put Missouri State back into pretender-instead-of-contender status by winning on the Bears' homecourt by three. WSU is 14-2, 3-1 in the league.
We're still on the national periphery. Win against CU this weekend will get some more national pub.

Very nice...I agree with him about Northern Iowa, they should be ranked.

They would be if it wasn't for the man.

Agreed! Northern Iowa is a VERY potent program and are building on the success of last year which was nothing to ho hum about.

I agree that the win at MSU was a big step in the right direction for the Shocks. I don't agree that one loss though has relegated MSU from a contender-to-pretender. They look like a contender to me.

Hopefully, at the end of the season a home loss to the Shocks will not be considered a bad loss at all.

You can't count MSU out. If you do, I think you are making a very, very big mistake. If that game had gone into overtime ----

It will be a good win when we beat UNI.

MSU has also lost 3 out of their last 5 games. If Bradley would have happen to beat them Saturday who knows what may happen with them the rest of the season.

A loss in OT on the road at Arkansas, a loss on the road at UNI 84-76 and the home loss to the Shocks. Throw in a 14 pt road win over Evansville and a nice home win over Illinois State and I don't exactly see the Bears as imploding. I think they will be very competitve the rest of the way.

That is usually the way it starts. Look at what happened to WSU in 2007 with a Top 10 ranking loses by 3 to NM, then losses by 4 to USC, then drop a game to UNI at home by 4, another loss at SIU and all of sudden WSU is reeling. WSU goes from a lock for at-large to just another mid-level MVC team.

Anything's possible. ILS, MSU, SIU and WSU all seem pretty evenly matched, maybe a half-step behind UNI. CU, INS and BU will be difficult at home. A long way to go and it's shaping up as a pretty competitive race. Still I expect the Bears will hold their own. May all boil down to who can consistently win the close games.

I agree. MVC really needs to have 2-3 teams dominate the rest of the way and not have a competitive bloodbath.
