  • MSU fan shoving Murry

This may be in the game thread but I know it was on VT.net and now on the Eagle site. http://www.kansas.com/sports/story/1127518.html

I had the game DVRd so I went back to look at it again. Its pretty brutal and somewhat pathetic that the SMS staff did nothing. Its clearly on camera and the fact that there were two fans who both extended their arms moving TM backward is inexcusable. Marshall pointed it out the ref and there was NOTHING done not even a warning. Then as TM is shooting free throws you see in the background security members standing at the opposite end of the row of students from where TM was pushed just having a casual conversation.

Paul's article covers this well and it appears that the proper people have discussed it but I agree with what Marshall said, if that happens at our place is it a non event? I highly doubt it. I hope they treat these kids the same way we treated the loser with the water bottle. The event was captured on video so there is no excuse not to pursue it further. Someone on VT said that the kid had "special" issues and that he didn't know better but I'm not sure I believe that after seeing it on video.

In the end it shows one thing, GM has recruited a group of great young men that have good heads on their shoulders. Many other young men would have responded to this in a negative way. Way to go TM.

    1. I agree that it was a disturbing event all-around. No moves by security at all whatsoever? What the hell is the point of even having security there?
    2. I'm 100% positive that if the event happened in Koch Arena, an outcry by the entire league would have gone down.
    3. TM is a class act all the way.
    4. It's Murry, not Murray for the upteenth time.
    Deuces Valley.
    ... No really, deuces.

I was right there when it happened and was pretty shocked. One of our University Officials grabbed security and asked if they saw what happened. The security guard was clueless to the event and was informed and still did nothing....
Well, um, actually a pretty nice little Saturday, we're going to go to Home Depot. Yeah, buy some wallpaper, maybe get some flooring, stuff like that. Maybe Bed, Bath, and Beyond, I don't know, I don't know if we'll have enough time.

I saw it live on the telecast and was pissed.
"Special" or not ol dude can GTFO with that. That was a full out shove. Toure is a better man that I because I might have said something (even though you dont really know until you're in that position)

Personally I feel there should be more demand other than "MOST dept is looking into it" To hell with that, get it taken care of NOW

I wonder if the dude on the MSU board who admitted to being part of it is the other guy who extended his arms?

Also keep in mind over on the MSU board they say the kid has some disabilities. Which is still no excuse for pushing a player. Anyway just a nugget......

If you DVR'd the game, the incident is at the 18:32 mark in the second half. There is a waist-high railing between the floor and the students standing there. The railing alone would have slowed TM down -- it's not like he was coming at them 100 mph. And there were two students (or at least two guys standing there) that participated. If, in fact, it was a "special needs" person doing the biggest shove, he needs to have this explained to him in terms he can understand. "Special needs" does not mean he cannot tell right from wrong. However, in the heat of a game (and remember MSU was way, way behind at the time) things happen to those of us with a passion for the game. I can see putting your hands up to stop a player (either from hurting himself or hurting you), but this was a SHOVE, not just a defensive move. And that shove propelled TM backwards so that he stepped into the MSU cheerleading group.

I'm sure that the MSU people are taking care of this. I'm sure they don't want a repeat. Enough said -- as far as I am concerned, this incident is over and this student should understand that his action was not appropriate.

Now, --- calling all WSU fans --- let's not make the same mistake. And this is not directed only to the students (as I am not one). Keep your temper under control -- it's a game (a very wonderful, and for the most part, fun game, but just a game). Let's enjoy it.

Isn't their entire student body special needs?

I saw it live. I just caught the last of it but from my vantage point it looked like a combination of a punch and a shove. TM did what he should have an walked away but I don't think HCGM saw it. The guys on the bench were pointing the two jackasses out to the referees and nothing was done. The two ja's were taunting our players and the ref's during HCGM's discussion with the refs by acting like crybabies.

It appeared to me that HCGM just said forget about it and let's keep kicking arse. We were on a pretty good run when that happened IIRC.

It shouldn't matter if the kid is "special" or not. If he can't control himself he doesn't need to be at the games.

No, they were not ejected. I'm going to the MSU v Bradley game Saturday and I'll see if the jackasses are there. Those two are always in the same place at every game so they should be easy to spot.

I don't think it's a railing. I think its a portable partition like you see in an airport.

BTW, the Bear fans seem to be pretty upset about it too.
