  • another redshirt thread

as much as I hate to bring this up again, what about Aaron Ellis? Granted he will be a senior, but he's just not playing very well and could use another year. Right now we use him for defense, which is also EO's specialty. It's a longshot but KU is redshirting a senior this year so it's not impossible. Go ahead......

Why do you believe Ellis is playing poorly? He looked fine to me the other night and I, personally, have no problem with his overall performance this year.

Ellis is filling a particular role on this team, which is not a “glamorous” role, without complaint. He has demonstrated in past that he can put up good offensive numbers too. Putting EO and Ellis on the floor at the same time would not be the end of the world.

        :good:

Ellis is one of our best interior screeners (along with Hatch), and those screens are what make the offense run. I doubt we sacrifice that given our potential to be a very good team next year.

It would be silly to redshirt him. Don't fix what isn't broke.

Not sure I agree with your assessment that he's not playing well. IMO what you're seeing is what you're going to get from AE. He fills a role and does it to the best of his ability. Due in part to intangibles I don't see him improving a lot at this point in his career.

The only thing I'll say about Ellis at this point in time is:

Man, I wish he would've hit at least one of the two free throws last night.

Assuming Hamilton is useful next year a frontcourt redshirt makes sense. I'm pretty sure Jerome will be helpful so Ellis or Stutz sitting out is a real possibility. I've always thought that it would be Garrett. Perhaps not.

The plus with picking Garrett is he has more upside that will just take time to fully develop.

The Shocks won't have 5-6 guys averaging 15 or so ppg (who does). Someone has to do the dirty work for the scorers and Aaron Ellis as very good at what he does. His role on this team is to play defense, set screens, and get some boards. Don't dump on the guy for not scoring - he does so much more that makes the team better.

He will do just that the rest of this season in '10-'11, with an occasional 10-12 point burst. There are other players coming up who will step into the players' roles for all this year's juniors when the '11-'12 season rolls around.

                  No redshirt required.

I know that at the Shocker luncheons Marshall has singled out Aaron Ellis as one of the guys whose play he has been happiest with this year. He calls him our best screener (as TMH mentioned) and loves his defense. I would be astounded if he was redshirted next year.

the only other arugment is that we have only 1 senior on the team. In an ideal world, we would have more evenly distributed classes. We will take a huge hit when Gabe, JT, Aaron and Hatch all graduate.

I would rather have all my weapons available in a year where we have the talent to make an NCAA run that try to even out class distribution.

I understand that point of view, but I am on the other side of the fence.

There is nothing wrong with the was Ellis is playing. He plays a role in Marshall's system and is pretty good at it. There are some areas that his game could improve, but I don't think a red-shirt year would be worth the improvement.

Sometimes a W is just a W. The second half last night wasn't pretty, but we did win. One thing that really impresses me is is the 3rd guard or the sf position. Hatch, Kyles and sometime Murry seem to handle the position well, mostly in the Valley I expect a 3rd guard.

                            Saturday we need some payback.

Are you saying that AE has met his potential ceiling or will do so shortly?
