    MTXE Weekend and more…

(Apologizes for the new thread; however I desired to properly recognize the athletic department for planning this event)

Sunday’s half-time celebration was FANTASTIC! There were a lot of teary eyes in Koch Arena including mine. I’ve often been critical of the athletic department (specifically marketing); however they deserve an A+ for the MTXE weekend celebration. The ‘slam dunk’ video was outstanding… WOW! Additionally, it appeared that AC, Cliff and X thoroughly enjoyed the introduction video featuring them and the other All-Americans… you could sense the pride and appreciation they felt. Additionally, I liked the silent auction and the display of the jerseys… it thought it was done first class. Cheese Johnson’s signature made me chuckle with a printed “CHEESE”. Special thanks to Coach Marshall and AD Eric Sexton for planning such a wonderful event.

    :good: :good:

Although the MTXE period provided some of the greatest moments in Shocker history, there was also controversy that split loyalties and caused bitterness from former players and long time fans. Unfortunately, Randy’s MTXE II tenure didn’t provide many highs and further alienated former players and long time fans. I believe Sunday’s celebration and the entire MTXE Weekend healed many deep wounds.

MTXE III has arrived… it should be a great decade to be a Shocker fan!

        MTXE

What a thrill and I join everyone in giving kudos to the staff for making this happen. It was one of the biggest thrills of all time at the ol' Round House.

I concur with all of the above... a truly memorable afternoon in Koch Arena and one I'll never forget.

I think that's been discussed some over several threads and in the eagle or shockwaves. There has been some recognition over the last few years. Both Smithsons were introduced to the crowd last year or year before. X-man followed the team around during the NCAA tourny the sweet 16 year. Wasn't he also in the house fot the SIU double ot game or some other game that year?

In December of 2003, they had the Living Legends. Carr, Levingston, McDaniel, Stallworth, and Littleton.

All were available for autographs, which I proudly display on a signature basketball in our "Shocker" room.

I hope those who've been down on Sexton will give him credit for this.

Pretty sure Carr wasn't back. I believe you're talking about the 100 year celebration. Unless there was some other event I'm forgetting before that.

Nope! I've got the newspaper clippings with pics showing all, small poster with all 5 shown as on basketball cards (each signed by their card), and the ball signed by all. I know AC was late, but he arrived during the ceremony. December 19, 2003, all 5 numbers were retired.

I believe Carr may have missed the 100th Anniversary in 2006.

That may be. I had the 100 year thing stuck in my head. Back in 03 I didn't get to near as many games and I'm not sure I'd found SN yet.

Yep, AC was there and was shocked when I showed him the Sporting News article entitled "AC + X = Wins for WSU". I also had an old game program from his Freshman year. He found Equipment Manager Mr. B and showed it to Mr. B who was really tickled. I got both their autographs on it as well as AC's on the Sporting New article and the article about his 47 point effort against SIU.

I had my grandsons with me and he signed autographs for them and talked to them quite a lot. Then he stood up so they could see just how big he really is. I never saw eyes get so big as they looked up at him. :)

I can relate to your grandsons. For two reasons:

                              (1) When I was about 9 years old, I ran into Cliff at a Wendy’s and got his autograph. He was very generous with his time but I remember being in awe of his height (intimidated is probably a better word); and

                              (2) I was once part of a half time show at Levitt. I was standing in the tunnel talking to a friend (not paying attention); as the first half ended I turned to look toward the floor and I was nearly ran over by X, my favorite player (scared me to death), he didn’t seem “happy” – I think they were behind by a couple points. I didn’t get his autograph.
