  • I didn't see this mentioned anywhere, but as the game went on, I kept asking myself......damn, who is shutting down Taylor Brown?"

Obviously, I am not as aware of other players as I am of our own, but Bradley's leading scorer did not play due to a coaches decision.

I believe this young man has run afoul before, but there isn't much explaining why at this point....

You dance with who brung you, and you have to be responsible for recruiting good people that stay out of trouble (knock on wood) but we obviously benefited from the Braves not having their "star" this afternoon.

Bradley needs a big guy if they expect to be more than .500.

Seeing Antoine and Cliff back to back (bookends) was fantastic.

I couldn't have picked Eric Kuhn, Jay Jackson or Mike Denny out of lineup if my life depended on it.

Watching the team sit after we scored was classic. Watching Antoine try to convince X not to sit (we stand for defense now, X) was even better....I thought X was going to pop him one.....and I'm pretty sure AC would have come right back at him

I am very happy the guys won.....I would have hated to see X whip their collective asses in the lockerroom if they had lost. It would not have been pretty.

All those guys had a GREAT time, and man did they deserve it. Gene was super.

I forgot how short Ted is.....is he still in Wichita and if he is, what is pedalling these days?

Ted has been retired for about 4 years or so. He is on the board of directors and a founder of the Sids Network of Kansas. He rides the treadmill daily after a quadruple bypass about 5 or 6 years ago. He actually is pretty fit though. Was a wrestler and a wrestling coach for years. Spends his time in KC and Dallas visiting his children and their grand children...Oh and yes he still lives in Wichita.
1/16/2010 on the "Screw at the Q" HCGM... " Ive never seen a foul parade like that...If you would of let me know it was going to be a foul parade I would of brought a different team" .... "dont talk to me about fouls....Ive got to go back and look at some tape... I have some thoughts but I need to look at the tape and then I will have something very strong to say"

Mr. Ellis was in attendance, with family I believe. I didn't see anyone else that I was aware of, but that doesn't mean there weren't one or two.

          • Second straight game where we did not let the opponent perform better in the second half. This is encouraging.

Still, this was a mediocre Bradley team who was without their star player. We finally dominated at the end, but this game was a little too close for comfort considering the obstacles Bradley was facing (playing away and without their star player).

Hopefully, these past two games made the team finally realize that they cannot take a game off in MVC play. Onto SMS, we get that game then look out!

            • Great day to have Ellis with Antoine and Aubrey and others in the house, but Antoine and Aubrey have the same lineage.

              • A few observations:

                1. The no-call on Stutz in the first half was the hardest I've ever seen anyone hit without a foul being called. Had I been in HCGM's shoes, I would have been T'd up.

                2. The crowd was decent, but still pretty lackluster at times considering the magnitude of the day.

                3. DW played good minutes again. I have hope that he'll be a very good PG for the next 3 years.

                4. Ellis played limited minutes, but was very effective. He was limited b/c GB and Durley were also playing really well.

                5. If we hit half of our open looks from 3 in the first half, we would have led by 10 at the break.

                • JaminShock If we hit half of our 3's it'd be 50%. That would be phenomenal and we should be way ahead. As it was, we hit 38% for the game and that's a good percentage of 3s made.

                  • Lawrence Wright and Theron Wilson (former, more current Bradley Braves) were in attendance as well according to http://www.bradleyhoops.com/homepage...-Wichita-State

Boogie has been seen dominating play during lunch at Genesis from time to time.

Didn't mean to be unclear... I said half of our open looks. We missed a lot of wide open looks from 3 in the first half.

I took a 1979/1980 WSU Media Guide (in great condition) to the game yesterday. Had to take it out of the shrink wrap, but it was worth it. Got autographs from every player who was there yesterday and who was in the Media Guide. That's all the players who played that year plus Cheese Johnson who had an article in the guide. I also got Coach Gene Smithson, AD Ted Bredehoft and long time Equipment Manager Mr. B (Roland Banks). Mr. B is certainly one of the most beloved people by the players and staff of all time. Here is an article from the timeframe where he was inducted into the Shocker HOF. http://www.wichita.edu/insidewsu/@1-20-2000/Mr%20B.htm.

Ted signed by a picture of Gene hugging him during a celebration after beating DePaul early in Gene's 1st year. DePaul had just beat UCLA and was very highly ranked (#1 or 2 I believe). Ted said that game turned the program around. He wrote much more than just signing and was extremely excited and gracious.

The players I recognized immediately were naturally the superstars, AC, X, Good News along with Randy and Aubrey. But I also immediately knew Jay Jackson, Lew Hill and James (Buggs) Gibbs. I kept thinking I knew Mike Denny, and found that I was correct. I really hoped we would see Tony Martin, Henry Carr, Tom Kosich, Steve Kalocinski, Bob Trogele, Ronnie Ryer, John Kobar, Mike Jones, Gus Santos, Steve Grayer, Sasha Radunovich, Cedric Coleman and the Praylow brothers. and some others, but was certainly thrilled to see all the ones who were there.

All the players were tremendous to talk to. Many of them were showing off their pictures in my Guide to friends and family. Among those who were really enjoyable to visit with were AC, Cliff, Jay, Eric, Aubrey, Cheese and especially Terry Atwater. Unfortunately, I never managed to see either Mike Arline or Lew Hill after the game and did not have a chance to talk to them.

Gene was absolutely tremendous. He is always a joy to talk to and always seems to enjoy visiting with Shocker fans.

I'm looking forward to having time after work today to review a couple photos of Gene and Coach Marshall talking. I sure hope they turned out good. I'll also look over the remaining photos we took to see if any are worth putting on ShockerNet.

Yesterday was one of the very memorable days of my life. I was excited and a number of times, I found my eyes burning.

I would truly love to see the current Shockers wearing MTXE on their uniforms and believe Gene would allow it. He seems to have the greatest respect for Coach Marshall and his system.

One of my favorite moments was when J.T. dunked his rebound and Antoine Carr leaped up cheering. AC was really into the game and was fun to watch.

I was disappointed in the crowd the last 10 minutes of the game. It seemed that everybody was sitting on their hands. Even when the Low Brass Cheer was played, I felt so lonely standing. I felt like I was the only person outside of the students who was on my feet. I see lots of complaints about old timers on this site, but here I was in my 60's wanting some of the youth to get up and get loud with me.

I remembered back in MTXE days when nobody ever sat during the playing of Low Brass Cheer. I suspect that the returning players were probably disappointed in the crowd. At least one player (I won't say who) mentioned that it didn't seem as loud as he remembered.

                            • Thanks for sharing those special moments 150946shox. I'm envious. I drive others to the games and couldn't stick around afterwards.

I totally agree about the crowd. I'm edging up on 60 and I, too, felt like the only one standing or cheering our Shocks on at times. I noticed that several times when the Noise Meter came on, the crowd barely got it over half way. The last 5-8 minutes were particularly quiet. It was like the crowd was waiting for Bradley to get within 3 or 4 points before they were going to get noisy.

Nevertheless, had a great time. Eric Kuhn sat in the row in front of me (and a couple of seats over or I couldn't have seen as much). Bradley may very well end up being a mediocre team, but they certainly didn't play like it in the first half. I don't think they missed Taylor that much either, as Maniscalco and Roberts scored 19 points over their average. Singh may not have scored, but he definitely knew his roll. He was constantly setting solid picks (some not so legal), his team mates knew how to use them, and it was giving us fits.

                              • Given the events of the day, I'd say that was one of the weakest crowds in the last 5 years. Very, very disappointing.

It seems like our fans only get up for the opponent we are playing. Bradley was struggling so many assumed we were in for a blowout.

How about we get up for the team in white, instead of who we're playing? We're 13-2 and at times yesterday it felt like we were 7-8. That really didn't look well given so many of our history in attendance.

                                Very, VERY disappointing. Pathetic, actually.
