Originally posted by courtmaster3104what's the point right now in the season to have a bunch of media attention? what does that do? we havent proven we're ready to be the "hunted" yet. You cant go from 11-20 and 17-17 or whatever the final record was to "on the national radar". How is WSU different from Rhode Island, Temple, BYU, Army, Coastal Carolina, Western Carolina, William and Mary, UAB, LA Tech or Cornell. Are any of these teams "on the radar?" Are they "on your radar?" I'm a WSU fan, but get real they're a mid major. You won't be on the radar other than maybe a few little blips until tournament time and then you have to earn it. Use your heads.
Like DUShock said earlier, in Valley play, most everyone is on the radar. No game is taken lightly, so being on the national "radar" is irrelevant at this point. But if we do get those blips, it's nothing but positives.
Why on earth would somebody wanna underachieve and fly "under the radar"? That's one of the most retarded thought processes I've ever heard of.
You telling others to "use their heads"??Deuces Valley.
... No really, deuces.

Maybe Kitten State will hit No.8 and tank. Make sure you tell them that the Top 10 ranking is meaningless and will not help out any recruiting.
That's if they get that high. Kinda funny how WSU has been ranked higher than Kitten State in the last 3 years..Deuces Valley.

To me the whole under or over the radar argument really has to do with the maturity of the team, time of the season, and long term performance than anything.
Would I rather be under the radar at this point of the season with this team? Yes. This team has not yet proven where it stands in the Valley yet. If we are in contention for the league title at the mid-point, then it's time to be above the radar. At this point of the season being above the radar (ranked) is nothing but a potential distraction. Keep the team focused and perform in the Valley, bot at home and on the road; then being above the radar is a good thing, because now the team has proved the deserve it and needs to work like hell to stay there.
If you want to be above the radar all the time, that's great provided we have performed consistently over multiple seasons (like Gonzaga, SIU, or Creighton) to stay on the screen.
It took Turgeon 7 years to get on the radar, and half a season to fall off.

I think that the fact that we were on the radar during MT's tenure helped us get HCGM. He basically said that no matter what he did at Winthrop it wasn't going to get them a good seed in the tournement or even an at large.

Before the season it is best to not be on the radar at all then when the season starts it's best to be under the radar for the first part of the season then slowly move up into the radar, but not very high just a little on the screen, then just before the season ends, but before March Madness, you need to get up higher on the radar screen so that everyone can see you and know who you are. :roll:Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

Also being "on the radar" allowed us to get invited to top tier holiday tournaments such as the Paradise Jam in the Virgin Islands, the Old Spice Classic in Orlando, FL, the CBE Classic in KC, and the Maui Classic next year in Hawaii. Most likely those offers would not have come if we had been flying under the radar.
