notables: fantastic line for Hannah tonight. Not thrilled about the lack of production from the backup pg spot though. Blair regained form. anyone see Ellis tonight - stats aren't encouraging - fouled out with 0 points - we need him on the offensive end...

These guys get 10,000+ per basketball game, they have a perfectly good football stadium right next door and they don't have a football program. Weird as hell.

The following is my favorite comment from the ND State forum:
"Re: Gameday: Wichita State
now that a college basketball crowd and atomshpere...jealous..."
Personally, I thought the crowd was a bit lack luster last night. We wanted to get excited, but couldn't find much to get reved up about -- and then I look up at the scoreboard and we have 69 points. (where did they come from -- pretty quiet points) If the ND State poster thought last night had great atmosphere, he should have been there Saturday night.

Stutz
Part way through the 2nd half, Stutz had a rebound taken away from him by 2 NDS players and some idiot in the section next to ours (122) yelled, "Get Stutz out of there". A post game review of the stats shows Stutz was the #1 rebounder in the game for WSU with 7. He also was 3rd in min's played with 25, and had 0 TO's for the 2nd straight game. I'd say Stutz is making great progress.

In the post game with Kennedy, HCGM said that the second half we were running only secondary break and motion and that we usually run sets but did not tonight, at least in the second half. I got the impression he was trying to find out what some of the subs would do when things broke down and sets didn't produce."I not sure that I've ever been around a more competitive player or young man than Fred VanVleet. I like to win more than 99.9% of the people in this world, but he may top me." -- Gregg Marshall 12/23/13 :peaceful:

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".
A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

As painful as some of that game last night was to watch, a lot of it is understandable. In a perfect world we'd really lay the hammer down for the whole game, but it didn't happen. It doesn't surprise me, and it doesn't worry me as far as the overall picture goes. We did what we had to do. No more, no less.
Now, the rebounding thing does bother me a bit. The only reason their team was even with us is a lack of hustle or energy in that department which isn't good. We have superior leaping ability, but their guys just really got after it in that department.
Again, we'll be fine, but hopefully coach will use some of the negatives as a reminder to the team that it just wouldn't cut it in the Valley, and I'm sure he will.
Hopefully the team will enjoy a nice restful holiday break and will be ready to get after it on Dec. 26th when practice resumes. 12-1 sounds even better than 11-1, particularly with a road win over a big conference foe.

He's coming along nicely. We are fortunate that he's not required to be more than what he is right now. He can progress naturally as opposed to being forced into a situation where he has to produce more than he's capable of doing at this early stage in his career. Next year would be different of course.

The game started great. The players were jacked-up, the fans were pumped, Koch was loud, and the Shocks were rolling.
After getting the game under control, the Shocks shifted into cruise control. A lot of bunnies were left on the front of the rim, Wild-ass jump shots were too long, too short and everywhere else. The good thing was there weren't a gazillion fouls to prolong the agony. There was a nice spurt in the 2nd half that extended the lead to a comfortable 20+ and some guys started their holiday break early.
My take-away from the game was that the whole team (coaches included), were happy to win and take an 11-1 record out of the non-conference schedule, but they looked like they had tired legs and were a bit disinterested in thumping NDSU. I can understand not bringing the "A" game after the long stretch of back-to-back-to-back games, finals week, and the TTU game.
Everyone has a few days to clear their minds and then re-focus for the conference schedule. I like that no one is satisfied following a 12 point win that was never in doubt.
Happy Holidays to Shocker Nation!

It is also nice to know that if the game had really tightened, we probably would have had little trouble making a run back if we started going back to our sets."Cotton scared me - I left him alone." - B4MSU (Bear Nation poster) in reference to heckling players
