No there not BCS. Rankings are for BCS teams. They want the country to think there good. I know better.
First a Baseball fan then a Volleyball fan and then I guess I follow the basketball team.

Just my opinion, but at this point, nothing short of a regular season MVC championship will get us into the Big Dance.

That could change depending on how strong the Valley as a whole is at the end of the season. Therefore, I think any discussion of being ranked is somewhat pointless...

        This.

However, MSU is mid-week game with CU coming in the following Saturday before rankings come out.

If there continues to be a lot of fluidity among the top 15-30, I could see us being ranked prior to MSU (assuming no losses). A lot will depend on how many votes we get tomorrow.

Lets see how the list is going:

[X] Do very well in the OOC games.
[X] Get that "signature win" to pass the "eye test".
          [ ] Win the Valley
[ ] Win the MVC tourney

See - already half done by Xmas :yahoo:

Our league is not the sucky league that some of you guys make out in basketball. Baseball not as good.
But WSU gets ranked on name alone in baseball....

It seems a little "late" in the season, but our RPI took a BIG jump last night.

There is an article about it but I can't see it.

Texas Tech is at #36 and we jumped up about 70 spots to #87.

On RealTimeRPI we had the 10th best jump, up 55 spots to 87.

SIU had the 4th best jump.

Beating a "signature" team has nothing to do with the eye test. Plenty of non-bcs schools beat "signature" teams every year that would certainly not pass the eye test. The size and athleticism of our guards as well as the size and athleticism of our forwards is what helps us in the eye test department. We won't pass with flying colors (yet), but if there is any MVC team that has a chance of passing it, we are the one.

If we beat sCUm on the 9th and are undefeated through that stretch, I think we crack in.

Of course, a lot of this depends on what teams in front of us do too.

I prefer the "riding under the radar" scenario anyways.

There are still A LOT of Valley fans questioning our worth right now.

And most of them probably need to question their own worth as well....

The nice thing about beating a ranked Tech team is it gets people's attention. Even if Tech starts to tank (I hope not) eyes will still be watching this Wichita St squad. If the boys play well and don't drop too many games that would be really bad losses then the accolades will come. It's all in the Shocker's hands.

That is strictly in terms of national respect from the media and gaining ground on the AP top 25. But for postseason hopes...I hope Tech is at least a bubble team come March.

I never heard of the Elitist Jerk's Sports Information Collective poll but we get a few votes:

                            PS Missouri State is 16.

The TTU win won't put the Shocks in the Top 25, but a few more wins should. To that end, a win at IllSt will be pivotal. We all expect wins vs. NDSU and DU and would put the Shocks at 13-1 with a couple quality wins and some road wins. Probably worthy of a Top 25 ranking. Mid-major programs, however, have very little margin for error. Dropping a game will affect the potential for being ranked a lot.

Also, lost in the hyperbole of Saturday's game is the minimal (or sub-par) offensive contribution of Murray, Blair, Kyles and Ellis. As athletic as that TTU team is, those guys should have thrived. Most everyone who played contributed to the TTU win in other ways, but as good as the Shocks were on Saturday - they can be MUCH BETTER. If the balance comes more consistently, the Shocks will get even better and will deserve to be ranked.

I'd like to add that I don't want to see us ranked for awhile. One, we haven't proved it by any stretch of the imagination, and two, that isn't the prize and it's not even close. Win some quality road games (Evansville, Indiana State don't count in my book) against teams that haven't lost or teams that you haven't beaten away from home, say, in Demetric's lifetime.
