We are starting to get national press that our only loss was while our starting PG was suspended. It helps that the media has noticed that, but a "mid-major" just about has to be undefeated at this stage of the season to get a ranking. Either that or be in carryover mode from the previous season.
The BCS schools don't need quite as much success to get ranked.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades. We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
We'll probably start receiving a few votes, but not enough to make it into the rankings.
More important than the rankings is that we reverse last year's start to the MVC season and positon ourselves for a run at the Conference Championship.
The rankings will eventually come if we are successful enough.
In a twisted way the suspension of Hannah may have helped WSU. They may have lost against Pitt anyway had Hannah been available. Now however there is a bit of a " * " next to that game and the loss probably isn't given as much weight.
FSF concurs that we won't be ranked for now. It wasn't that long ago, the Shocks started the Season on fire and was ranked 8th or so at one juncture in the Country. We had some unbelievable big wins early on. Then we did a nose dive with a dismal finish. My hopes for this team is that they keep improving and finish strong in the Valley race. Then towards the end of the Valley race and on into St. Louis, we peak to the mountain tops of our Season. Now that would be more impressive and meaningful than rankings right now.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.
Taking care of business at home and at Normal between now and January 3rd would get us ranked. However, that is looking ahead a little more than I am comfortable with.
Dating back to January 17, 2008, since that time the Shocks are 21-7. This is the time frame after we started the MVC @ 0-6. I think this shows that this team has matured into something special. Time will tell, but I believe a national ranking isn't far away.
I don't think we will be ranked and I don't have a complaint about it at this time, however, I don't think we SHOULD have to do anything more than K-State to get ranked just because we are from the MVC. Our league is not the sucky league that some of you guys make out in basketball. Baseball not as good.
