      About halfway down..
From Andy Katz: "[Clevin Hannah] was suspended for the only Shocker loss, to Pitt in Kansas City in the CBE semifinals. Wonder what would have happened if he'd played?" Don't we all, Andy, don't we all.

A very good win for the Shocks tonight. It would have been a great win if TTU didn't get so close at the end. My feeling leaving Koch was relief instead of elation. Don't get me wrong - I love being relieved. I also think that TTU clock/score management demonstration will be a learning experience for coaches and players alike and might help this team before season's end.

      • Sorry for the double post, but hey ... it's the middle of the night.

To my point on Hannah ... the post-game media was a-buzz about Hannah's two consecutive 3-pointers. In reality, there was really a stretch of THREE Hannah 3-pointers that pulled the Shocks up by the bootstraps and made this will a reality.

        6:36 Shocks went down 54-57
        6:16 3-PTR by Hannah 57-57
        5:12 FT by Stutz 58-61
        5:01 3-PTR by Hannah 61-61
        4:37 3-PTR by Hannah 64-61

That was the final tie or lead change in the game and the critical stretch that revived the Shocks confidence and the crowd a bit.

        Clev - what a game!

No joke, and it took some miraculous 3 pointers to get it close at the end.

They weren't the better team tonight, were they????? :yahoo:

I thought that's why you played the game, to see who is the better team! duh!

And why did Tech have 7 coaches, I thought 4 was the most you could have? (7 sat in a row counting Pat Knight).
TT has a history of not counting very well. The baseball team had at least a couple of EXTRA players on scholarship. :good:

What was West Virginia doing going to Cleveland State? Not sure, but at least the Mountaineers got out with a two-point win to preserve a potential undefeated showdown at Purdue on Jan. 1.

                  • FSF is still beaming from our early Shocker Christmas present with a win over a solid ranked team. The combo of Stutz and Durley in some game situations is deeming valuable. However, I am also comfortable when Gabe and Ellis are in the game. These 4 inside forces are interchangeable in many ways and Coach Marshall is subbing them in and out in a skillful strategic fashion. While I am digging on JT's 20 points, I am elated with his 10 rebounds. What about the consistancy we are seeing with Stutz against a tough inside team? GS had 13 points, a real key 'tip in' late in the game, and was 7-9 from the stripe.

How long has it been since a Shocker team is draining free-throws like us as of late? We made 28 free throws to TT's 18 for a whopping 82.4%!!! U like? Next we outrebounded them 40-35. I think our rebounding abilities will make a big difference in Valley play. Yes, we had too many turnovers and that needs to improve. However We had 19 assists which means we are clicking and held them to 12 which I hope means we are creating havoc with the schemes of our opponets.

Last but not least, what about our Senior Clevin draining the 2 clutch three pointers at a time we were vulnerable to fold up the tent? Shades of Mike Jones breaking KU's heart at "Battle Of New Orleans" with his 2 long, long jumpers!!!" We only have 1 Senior but he is our leader.

Right now, it would be hard to say which Shocker player is the most improved thus far because each of them are better players this Season. I know for a fact that these young men worked diligently through the summer to improve and it is now paying dividends with victories!!!!! Winning is fun. Beating ranked teams is what we will continue do both now and in the forseeable future.
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

                    • 1. We got cherry-picked waaay too much. I presume that was on Hannah, but I'll bet the staff makes sure there is no repeat of that.

                      2. Found it curious that Stutz came in for TM in the "blood rule" situation, when Hatch was available. Is Stutz really better from the charity stripe? I suppose that he must be, and that is astounding.

                      3. Those refs suck.

                      4. Those two endline calls (were those in the first half?) were both wrong. One was TM dribbling, the other was somebody saving the ball. Happened about 5 minutes apart and both our guys were clearly (CLEARLY) inbounds. Out entire section went wild. The official was assuming, and was calling stuff he did not actually see.

                      5. I remain amazed at the metamorphisis in Durley. That's pretty cool, and I never believed that he would make the change. Very glad I was wrong.

Coach Jans said in a post-game show that Stutz stood up and told Coach to put him in because he would make the free throws.

                          Kyles is a superstar.
I don't know that I would have expected this when he came into the program, but every game David is reminding me more and more of PJ. PJ was a good scorer, but really excelled by playing every facet of the game well and filling up the stat sheet. David is starting to do the same by playing great defense, dishing out assists, and skying for rebounds.

There are certainly plenty of differences in their games, but that jack of all trades ability is there with both and I love seeing it.
David is MUCH faster than P.J., not to take anything away from P.J. When Kyles moves to the hoop he is high octane. It appears he has a higher vertical leap as well. He has gotten his elbow above the rim in games.

P.J. is a proven winner though with the heart of a lion. David still has a ways to go in that department. I would compare Murry to P.J. in this regard.
David is a more gifted athlete.

                          PJ is a better leader.

P.J. is fierce. David is not. However, David is becoming more aggressive.

David plays smarter. PJ could be a turnover machine at times.

David is a better outside shooter. PJ is a better inside scorer.

David lets the game come to him. PJ takes over the game.

David has the best entry pass.

PJ is a very fine traffic player. David tends to avoid traffic, but when he goes, look out.

David is the better outside shooter and free throw maker.

I loved that Pat Knight's comment on the late 3s:

I doubt it would happen but would love to see Tech do at least middle of the pack in the Big 12 this year.
I agree, but Tech has a 5 hole problem.

He made both that he substituted for Murry, so I don't understand the "until that moment". For the season he is shooting 78%; Hatch 80%, not much to choose from.

How many teams will substitute a 7' player in that situation? How many woould substitute a center, period?
