  • Ill St or Texas Tech

We open MVC on the road against Ill St. Tues Dec 29th...If we had to go 1 and 1 against these two...Which game would you rather win?... A little silly but my wife and I kicked it around....I think I'd take Tech...maybe just for the excitement of the moment

    Win both of course! :good:

BY the way when we play Syracuse and Oral Roberts in 2013 which one would you rather us win?

    I'm just joking man.

But I certainly would not want to beat Tech then lost to Illinois State, talk about a potential for a loss that shows up in your "bad loss" column come tourny time.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

Tech, plenty of opportunity to win conference games.

WSU needs both. Alot team in the MVC are going to beat ISU-Red, WSU needs to be one of those teams.

It would hurt, but conference games are more important than non conference games.

As I think about it, sometimes a game like TT is more important to the program.....now I have confused myself.

          Thanks

Winning a "high profile" out of conference game only helps the program if you also clean up in conference. Kill in the OOC and then lay an egg in the conference and you have nothing but a few nice memories. Of course this applies only to those not in a BCS conference.

What's "better for the program" is consistently winning Valley games. WSU hasn't won its conference opener in the last 3 years (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm going with Ill. St.

A home win over Texas Tech will have a positive effect on the Shocks RPI. A road win vs. IllSt probably would, too, although slightly less since the overall conference RPI of the MVC won't be as good as the B12 and IllSt's non-conference is very poor.

Besides, if the Shocks lose at IllSt, we'll get another shot (or two) at them later.

Alex, I'll take "Win Over Texas Tech" for $800.

A number of other teams will lose at ISU. A win over Tech will get much more national recognition and is likely to have more positive impact on the selection committee than a loss at ISU would have negative impact.

                      It's Tech for me.

The nice thing about this little conundrum, given the way IlSt is playing right now, si that if we are good enough to beat #16 Tech at home we will also be good enough to beat IlSt on the road.

I would definitely take a TECH win. The only opportunity to add a very noticeable out of conference win to the tournament resume. Provides a win against the Big 12, against a ranked opponent, significant RPI boost.

We would have opportunities to make up for a loss to Ill St. in valley play, and there is always the valley tournament if we really stub out toes.

That said ... let's just get both of em.

                            What was that old quotation?
"Nuke 'em till they glow and shoot 'em in the dark!!" No.
                            "Just win, baby!!" OK.

Let's beat both teams. :goshocks: :D

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

The nice thing is that in reality we don't need to pick one or the other and this year we are capable of winning both these games. Of course, we are also capable of losing both games also. In any case, it is nice to be finally getting to some games we as fans can get "paplpated" about.

                              :goshocks:
