I have a question... I'm going to be in Vegas 1/31 - 2/4. WSU plays on the road vs UNI during that time. I don't think Kansas Now 22 broadcasts their games in Vegas. Is it illegal for me watch the game online? If so, should I not watch it, record it and try not to talk to anyone or watch any sports highlights for 3 days?Comment

I live in a town outside of Wichita that doesn't have Cox and last I checked Ch 22 isn't on DIrecTV or Dish Network. And if the game is sold out, then I would only be left with Shockervision, and if it's as bad as people on here have been saying, I'm not wasting my money on it either. So until either they start showing the games on a real channel out of Wichita, many people are going to continue going to that website to see a game.Comment

I think people are blowing things a bit out of proportion with this.
There are dozens upon dozens of ESPN/CBS games that are on channelsurfing every week. How come neither one of those giants are going after them?

Yeah, but Fever, what if WSU Athletics wanted to go after Shockernet (which means me personally) because SN is complicit with the illegal use of their product? I'd rather not go down that road. Like I said earlier, I really think it would be in WSU Athletics' best interest to make the feeds free. And maybe instead of just showing the video board feed, how about giving the broadcast comm students a chance to get some practical experience? From what it sounds the production quality wouldn't go down if we did that, and we would get some students some valuable experience.

Just curious, has the athletic department asked you to stop allowing links referencing Channelsurfing.net? It's no secret that they're on here all the time. I always find it amusing when I see computers at the scorers table open on Shockernet because someone forgot to close it. I would think if they had a problem with it they would let you know before going straight to legal action...especially when it's Channelsurfing.net they should be going after and not Shockernet.Originally posted by ShockBandComment

Excellent point. And I think that's one of the big reasons why people don't wanna pay for it... is do to it just being a straight feed from the scoreboard. A bit "cheapsy" IMO. While the Communications Decency Act would preclude Shockernet from being held liable for any defamatory posts, it explicitly does not provide immunity to a site like Shockernet from being held liable for any criminal actions nor intellectual property claims.
