I remember going to a friend's house after home games when I was an undergrad to watch the immediate replay of the game that they ran.

I have a question... I'm going to be in Vegas 1/31 - 2/4. WSU plays on the road vs UNI during that time. I don't think Kansas Now 22 broadcasts their games in Vegas. Is it illegal for me watch the game online? If so, should I not watch it, record it and try not to talk to anyone or watch any sports highlights for 3 days?

I live in a town outside of Wichita that doesn't have Cox and last I checked Ch 22 isn't on DIrecTV or Dish Network. And if the game is sold out, then I would only be left with Shockervision, and if it's as bad as people on here have been saying, I'm not wasting my money on it either. So until either they start showing the games on a real channel out of Wichita, many people are going to continue going to that website to see a game.

You're in luck. That particular game is on ESPNU, which should be shown at any number of casinos in Vegas.

Whoops. I glanced and saw UNI, but it's the game in Wichita on the 19th.

In my "not giving you legal advice" opinion, if you are out of the Cox 22 market area, and ESPECIALY if you're already paying for it at your home, you don't have much to worry about.

If you have Cox 22 at home that you're already paying for, watching channelsurfing.net in Vegas, for all intents and purposes, isn't doing anything that you couldn't already legally do with a sling-box yourself.

I think people are blowing things a bit out of proportion with this.

There are dozens upon dozens of ESPN/CBS games that are on channelsurfing every week. How come neither one of those giants are going after them?

It's the nature of the beast.. the beast being the internet. Once the door is open, you might as well just go right in, cuz it ain't closing.

Yeah, but Fever, what if WSU Athletics wanted to go after Shockernet (which means me personally) because SN is complicit with the illegal use of their product? I'd rather not go down that road. Best way I can think of to accomplish that is to not have any actual links or direct references to those links.

Oh, I understand your position fully SB. In fact, I'm not opposed at all whatsoever of not showing channelsurfing links.

I was just speaking in a general sense, especially regarding the first post of the topic.

Like I said earlier, I really think it would be in WSU Athletics' best interest to make the feeds free. And maybe instead of just showing the video board feed, how about giving the broadcast comm students a chance to get some practical experience? From what it sounds the production quality wouldn't go down if we did that, and we would get some students some valuable experience.

Maybe we would even find Mike Kennedy's successor for whatever point he decides to hang up his mic.

Just curious, has the athletic department asked you to stop allowing links referencing Channelsurfing.net? It's no secret that they're on here all the time. I always find it amusing when I see computers at the scorers table open on Shockernet because someone forgot to close it. I would think if they had a problem with it they would let you know before going straight to legal action...especially when it's Channelsurfing.net they should be going after and not Shockernet.

Excellent point. And I think that's one of the big reasons why people don't wanna pay for it... is do to it just being a straight feed from the scoreboard. A bit "cheapsy" IMO. Now, I got the yearly pass last year when I was out of town and it fulfilled its goal most of the time, although it froze up a bit a few times.

                              SB is wise.

While the Communications Decency Act would preclude Shockernet from being held liable for any defamatory posts, it explicitly does not provide immunity to a site like Shockernet from being held liable for any criminal actions nor intellectual property claims.
