  • Big 10 Expansion creates ripples

Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez says the Big Ten will soon make a more aggressive push toward adding a 12th member.

Do any of you have any insider info on what WSU's position will be if the Valley starts to break up? Stay? Add football? Upgrade?

As noted on the BU thread (thanks MoValley John), we might see quite a shake-up impacting many different conferences ("All I want for Christmas is a new conference").

Way to go Veritas. Stirring up trouble again.

But I'll jump in!! I'm surprised that a number of the Bradley posters thought that WSU would be included in some sort of arrangement with these new midwestern (mideastern) alignments. Quite frankly, I'd like to see some of the break-ups they discussed actually happen. Just don't include us!

I'd much prefer the schools we've discussed before.

LOL I will jump in as well, I like how they are bashing WSU's Academics on the Bradley Board...lol

If shake-up happens within the Big 6 conferences, you can bet that some of the "middies" might try and put themselves in the best position moving forward.

I really like our basketball league, especially when a handfull of the programs are playing like they are right now, but the rest of the conference sports leave a little to be desired.

I'm confused. The article linked to in the first post doesn't even go so far as to suggest what school would potentially be added to the Big Ten. So it's hard to speculate on any potential fallout. The only schools I could possibly see filling that twelfth spot would be Notre Dame (don't think they're interested though) or maybe Memphis? Or else do they try to steal a Big East team? Cincy? I can't imagine any of these scenarios affecting the Valley. At least I hope it doesn't, I like the shape of the Valley exactly the way it is at the moment.

Barking Carnival's take is that Missouri might bolt, blowing up the Big 12. (I don't think they're serious about Texas leaving)

“The rebellion on the populist right against the results of the 2020 election was partly a cynical, knowing effort by political operators and their hype men in the media to steal an election or at least get rich trying. But it was also the tragic consequence of the informational malnourishment so badly afflicting the nation. ... Americans gorge themselves daily on empty informational calories, indulging their sugar fixes of self-affirming half-truths and even outright lies.'

I've heard mention of Missouri leaving as well. I guess they expressed interest a number of years ago.

They were talking on bruce/bob about missouri being a possible addition to the list of big 10 schools. Natural rivals with illinois and proximity. They then discussed who would move into that vacant position. Tulsa was ruled out because of facilities and money, colorado state was mentioned as was tcu.

Ok so you guys need to educate me here. What make the Big Ten and/or Pac 10 so enticing to schools in the Big 12? Looking at the big sports, ie basketball and football, the Big 12 is generally more competitive than either of those other conferences.

FWIW, a Michigan alumni co-worker says it is going to be most likely Pittsburgh that B10(+1) is going after to add.

Will they become the Big TeTwelve? Or the Big We Can't Count Higher Than Ten? The Big 1100?

Do you mean the Big Televen TV network? If that's the only "advantage", I don't see it being much better than the Big 12. Plus, the Big 12 is a much more competitive conference on a national level. The Big Televen is surviving on their past history and not on what they have done lately, which isn't much.
