nice to see a solidly ranked team coming in to koch this weekend. K-state jumps up to 17 after a nice week.

That's quite a rise for having not played a game since the last polls.

Maybe we should beat them and then not play again until the end of the season?

I'm glad to see KSU getting some love. I know it wasn't a real game but all of the reports that came out of the scrimmage says that we held our own IIRC.

The scrimmage that no one saw is probably the best real indicator of where our program is right now.

This game is setting itself up to be one that could go down in history if all the stars align properly.

If we can get off to a quick lead (like against TCU), the crowd will get into it and nobody will be sitting unless things tighten up (think FSU). If they jump to a quick lead it could severely dampen the potential of what could be a deafening crowd. Let's hope Toure' starts it off with back to back threes again! :)

When was the last time we had a Big 12 team in Koch Arena?

Isn't it all gonna be "overhype" as you said a few days ago?

Kansas State and Oklahoma State in December 2000. We played both teams in December 2002 in Wichita, but they were at the Coliseum. Don't know if that "counts".

                  According to Pomeroy:

Texas Tech rpi is 46, ours is rpi 50. (so we are not that far apart).

But Texas Tech beat Washington 99-92 in o/t. Washington's rpi is 34.

Our biggest test was Pittsburgh at the time, but their rpi is currently 62. (granted they and us both were missing an important player, and we were not battle worn when we played them).

If we win this one, I can see us being ranked 22 or 23. This game will show us a lot of what our players are made of.

And Washington's only other loss was to Georgetown (RPI 21).

On 810 in KC today, Kevin Keitzman referred to a comment by Frank Martin that this year's team is the first KSU team since 1958-1959 to defeat two ranked teams in the non-con portion of their season.

Keitzman also made the comment that if KSU went up against a team with big guards, they would not be able to hit the shots they have been hitting in the past few games. HHHmmm... I wonder if that would substantiate any of the rumors we heard about the WSU-KSU scrimmage...

                        Numbers

Snap, Pomeroy doesn't say WSU's RPI us 50th; he says WSU's Pomeroy rating (like a Sagarin rating, only it comes from Ken Pomeroy) ranks 50th. I don't think Pomeroy does RPI simulations any more.

Warren Nolan, who does still provide an RPI calculation, shows WSU at 141st right now. Of course, it's still too early for RPI to matter that much, but it's going to take a lot of winning for WSU to get anywhere near 50th, much less into the polls -- although a good win over Texas Tech could conceivably get them a few poll points.

The plot thickens.....! Saturday's going to be about as fun as we've seen in Charles Koch Arena since coach Marshall came along. I doubt he's seen a crowd quite like what we'll have that night. Hopefully he'll see what Shocker Fans are really like when out in full force.

Several recruits, especially one higher profile recruit, will be in the house. Lets show them what home court advantage really is!!
