Actually, I-A, I-AA, and I-AAA. You get past the top 6-8 mid major conferences and you have a pretty good disparity as well.

Didn't that tool Gary Williams threaten a basketball BCS a year or two ago?

Takes a lot of glamour out of getting a first round NCAA bid. Kinda like a football team with a 6-6 record getting invited to a bowl game.

Wow does this mean we get to watch all 12 big 12 teams play in the NCAA?

I wasn't around when it happened, but was there an uproar when the field expanded to 64 from 32?

The NCAA tournament has expanded a number of times in the last 65 seasons. This is a breakdown of the history of the tournament format:
                  1939–1950: eight teams
                  1951–1952: 16 teams
                  1953–1974: varied between 22 and 25 teams
                  1975–1978: 32 teams
                  1979: 40 teams
                  1980–1982: 48 teams
1983: 52 teams (four play-in games before the tournament)
1984: 53 teams (five play-in games before the tournament)
                  1985–2000: 64 teams
2001—present: 65 teams (with an "opening round" game to determine whether the 64th or 65th team plays in the first round
                  )

Dont recall much if there was! :goshocks: 8)

If they split up division 1 basketball the NCAA should be dissolved.

The BCS schools wanted more tape from the "other schools" before they had to play them.

                            Very nice analogy.

More than likely they will schedule the "play-in" games for the bottom 64 teams then have the winners play their Top 32 seed the next day. That should help level the playing field.

They would do what was already alluded to earlier in this thread and match all the non-big 6 teams against each other in the 1st round so that they can knock each other off and reduce the number of potential upsets against the big boys in the next round.

They're already doing it in football. Boise St. vs TCU is a harbinger for things to come in basketball.
