  • Predicted Valley Finish - A Reappraisal

We are about a 1/4 through the regular season if you can believe it. Anyone care to revise their prediciton of how the valley teams will finish? Here is my guess based on the games so far:

    Northern Iowa
    Wichita State
    Missouri State
    Illinois State
    Bradley
    SIU
    Creighton
    Indiana State
    Evansville
    Drake

Personally I don't see Missouri St finishing that high. They are a young team and it's a long season. I have been impressed by their play so far though so if you are truely going solely on what has happened so far it's hard to argue.

With that I'll say your predictions look about right given strictly the play of the teams to this point. It'll be easier to get a true feel for the Valley once we start playing each other though. I am willing to bet the rankings would look alot different about 2-3 weeks into Valley play.

If Creighton is playing Thursday night in St. Louis, I'll be there! Don't want to miss them getting bounced from the tourney before it even starts...and yes I know it's happened to us more than once, but it would be fun watching it happen to the almighty Creighton.

Seem a little premature. This would seem to be more appropriate after TT game. Until the next 3 games are finished, I don't know how anybody can project how WSU will do in the MVC based off of playing Alcorn, Texas S. and USC Upstate.

As much as I hate Creighton, I don't think they finish 7th. Probably no lower than 5th.

Recent history tells us they will finish in the top 3 or so. SIU may also finish well. UNI, Ill St, and us should be in the top half. I'll be interested to see how Missouri St. finishes out the non-con. BU, In St, and EU all have some nice pieces, but they will play spoiler, and will not finish in the top 4. Drake is awful!

Right now, I can't even figure out how good WSU is going to be. The competition hasn't really provided a reasonable evaluation. IlSU has the same situation.

BU seems to have a better front court than was expected, so they MIGHT be better than my expectation, which was around 6th.

CU and SIU are mysteries. Neither is as bad as they seem to be right now. The mystery is when will they figure it out and start playing near their potential.

MoSt is a huge mystery. They're obviously not looking like a 9th place team, but their competition hasn't been at a level to make any solid interpretations of their success. Maybe they're this year's version of InSt in 2006 (I think) InSt finished OOC undefeated and in the top 10 in RPI. Then they crashed and burned and finished something like 9th in the league.

                9 - UE
                10 - DU

That's all I'm comfortable predicting based on what we've seen of this season so far.

                          Missouri State's wins:

Mon, Nov 16 Auburn Won 73-62
                          Fri, Nov 20 Maryland-Eastern Shore Won 70-53
Sat, Nov 21 Citadel Won 72-55
Sun, Nov 22 Eastern Michigan Won 75-61
Sat, Nov 28 Tulsa Won 83-75
                          Wed, Dec 2 @ Arkansas-Little Rock Won 75-62
Sat, Dec 5 Air Force Won 58-48

They have some good wins in there, and I do not think they look like a bottom feeder in the MVC.

They will be hurt a little in the MVC by only having 6'5" and 6'6" forwards though.

Not to hijack the thread; however the following was mentioned during last night's Pitt/Indiana game when they were talking about cancer and the 'V' Foundation. I hope we beat the snot out of them 2 or 3 times this year, but Iā€™m also happy for CM and the early season success at Mo. State.

                              I'll highjack it back.
Let's not put to much into Mo St wins. Two things I'll give them: 1)Their margin of victory (all wins were by 8 points or more and 2) Beating Tulsa.

Even #2 is a little suspect. Tulsa did beat Ok St (who is still somewhat unproven at this time), but that's it. Tulsa just beat Ohio (not St) by 1 at home, and other wins, Florida Int, S. Alabama, Loyola Marymount, AR-Little Rock, and SMTX, whoever that is.

Mo St. wins: 332 RPI Maryland Eastern Shore, 4-5 AR-Little Rock (who lost to Creighton by 15 for cryin' out loud ;-) ), Air Force who has beaten nobodys and lost to Northern Colorado by 24, 5-3 E. Mich no good wins, 6-5 The Citadel, and Auburn (at Mo St) who has also lost to UCF (neutral site), Troy at home, and beat Niagria at home by 4.

Do I think their better than their pre-season pick. Absolutely! I'm still not sure their MVC upper division yet.
