  • Northern Iowa takes out Iowa State

Illinois also bags #19 Clemson which will help boost Bradley's rpi. Illinois came back from 23 points down to beat Clemson at home. Ouch!

Being a true road game it's probably the best Valley win to date.

It's a toss-up between that and the neutral floor win with Illinois.

Don't know how good Iowa State will be yet..

      Still great wins regardless.
      Deuces Valley.
      ... No really, deuces.

What is the MVC's conference rank so far this year?
Now that the Valley is again enjoying some success, whenwill there again be clamoring for WSU to find another conference?

You put way to much stock into a few good wins. Without looking up the exact numbers, BCS schools have lost over 50 games to mid major schools so far this year. I believe the Valley has 5 of those wins. The WCC, normally a lower conference the the Valley, has 10 wins. The non-con schedules for most of the MVC teams are pretty much weak. I believe we have 5 non-cons with RPIs (last year) below 270. My guess is that we are trailing the 3 other big mid majors, A-10, C-USA, and MWC and are not playing better than the WCC.

The sagarin ratings have the MVC listed as a close 7th. They are, however, currently un-connected.

Spoiler Alert: Bruce Willis was dead the whole time!

I pleasantly stand corrected. For now anyway.

A few things have probably kept the MVC rating higher in the Sagarin. MSU playing much better than expected, Creighton's beginning rating, and only Drake with the other poor record. By and large, the Valley has avoided bad losses and won a good amount of evenly matched games (sCUm the exception). Once everyone is a couple of weeks into the conference schedules, you may see some "corrrection".

I appreciate the point that Randy Smithson just now made about thw Valley wins coming on the road. The Valley is currently ranked as the top "mid-major" conference.

On a somewhat similar note, when I have watched KU's games, there are never mention of scores form area schools such as WSU. But WSU's radio telecasts alays mention other state schools in scoreboard updates.

When mentioning Alcorn State's schedule a recent game in Wichita might have been relevant, but no mention. Now w/ a #1 ranking Wichita will be filling up w/ people who have never stepped foot on any college campus who buy KU gear.

Dave Armstrong mentioned WSU beating Alcorn St. in the first half last night. Infact I just flipped over to check the score watched for about 5 mins and heard it, so it might have been mentioned more.

Just in case you wanted another early season opinion on the Valley's "success" so far this year. By the way, they do have WSU second in the Valley.

Those numbers are good and all, but where is the data on the number that counts: $$$$$

Our 2004 conference distribution was something along the order of just under $400k for all sports, if this database is correct:

For purposes of comparison, the University of Memphis, in a non-BCS but upgraded conference, received a total conference distribution of just over $1 million.

I'm more than willing to be shown that I can't read those numbers correctly, but taken at face value it shows all you need to know about jumping conferences.
