  • Garrett the Monster

Tonight on the north end, Garrett grabbed an offensive rebound, put up a shot, missed his shot and then tipped it in. All of this was done in a blink of the eye.

In unison, my bud and I said, "Whoa!"

Now I have to tell you. There is somethin' going on and as Fever might say, I'm just sayin'.

Ricky, if you are describing the move at about 1:19 of the highlight reel on goshockers.com, then yes "Whoa!" is appropriate.

That move was BIGTIME. Watch it again....the dropstep spin baseline, even though he didn't score initially, was fantastic.

            Garrett's last 3 games:

            18 points, 5 boards, 1 turnover, 1 steal

            13 points, 6 boards, 1 turnover

            10 points, 12 boards, 0 turnovers, 1 steal and 1 block (about 4 actually).

That's 1-1 steals to turnovers and about 13 & 8 just 6 games into his So. season.

It's not going to be every night, but again, that's 3 below average games from JT and yet 3 blowout wins in spite of that.

Whoever the scorekeeper is at Koch is awful hesitant to give credit for blocked shots. Garrett had at least 4 and Ellis had 2 on the same play. Every home game there are blocked shots that don't go into the books.

I know one thing ... I sure would like to play Pittsburgh again with the way Garrett is playing now, and with Hannah back. I think it would be a different game.

But that is water under the bridge, we have to get ready for Texas Tech, because that game will again test our team.

I’m not making excuses but part of the reason might be that the scorekeeper is not accustomed to recording many blocked shots. It has been many moons since WSU has had real shot blockers on its frontline.

The kid is still growing into his shoes. GS may experience a setback now and then, but he's finally catching up to the pace of D1.

HCGM, during post-game, mentioned that the "plodding" that was characteristic of GS's freshman year is less evident, and gave kudos to both him and Rosenboom for their hard work.

Garrett has come a long way since I got to shake his hand before the UMKC game in KC during after week '07. I'm proud and happy for him regarding his progress to date, and even more excited and optimistic about his future.

It is amazing the transformation we are witnessing in GS. In the Pittsburgh game, he was just plain awful. Whatever happened between the Pittsburgh game & Iowa game (family, coaching) made him a changed man. I hope it lasts.

                          Maybe he should REDSHIRT!!
Also hang Kyles' just above the backboard, when he's driving the length of the floor for a dunk, have him grab it on the way down.

Don't laugh, he's going to be a monster as a 5th year senior.

We decided after that move that Garrett had officially shaken the "Fifi" tag. Strangely enough, what I'm most worried about now is JT's confidence. I want a monster Garrett AND a killer JT. Preferably on the floor together. Against Creighton. ;-)
