  • Guess: How many people at Koch?

    From Shockwaves:

Guess: How many people at Koch?

The question – what would Wichita State draw (actual, not paid) for a 1 p.m. game on a Tuesday afternoon against Arkansas-Little Rock?

Getting away from work on a weekday is TOUGH. Playing a bigger name would make it easier. There are a lot of blue-hair Shocker fans, so I think over 5,000 but less that 7,000 would be realistic.

I would complain, but I'd probably go to the game and then go back to work and work late.

I go to a lot of afternoon baseball, but you can arrive late to baseball and not miss much. Basketball is different - you want to be there at the BEGINNING.

Edit: Let me add, 1PM would be hard, 3PM would be much better. And what about parking on-campus during the day? Could be some serious issues there, too.

I think that if it happens once, you could get a nice crowd, but any more than that and you'd see a major drop-off.

There's pretty much zero chance I'd be able to make a game like that.
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
        RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

If by "blue-hair Shocker fans" you mean the older, more established Shocker fans -- remember most of us are retired or close to retirement and have been in our jobs so long that taking an afternoon off for a Shocker game would be no problem at all.

I would think the biggest problem would be the on-campus parking during a weekday.

Parking on-campus would be no problem. The University has shown no qualms in the past about taking parking from students and giving it to game attendees, no matter the time of day.

On another note, if you take a night class at WSU during basketball season, plan ahead. There is NO parking for students in any lot on Hillside, near Cessna Stadium, or by Duerkson. Be prepared to be early to walk or be late to class.
Deep in the heart of couldn't give a crap about college basketball-land and I miss the SHOX.

I think we would outdraw 95% of any other Division I institution in the same situation.

They announced 10,000+ at the game but I think 1,500 or so were dressed as empty seats.

I am not a big fan of afternoon basketball. I am retired so getting there in the afternoon is not an issue, I just like night games. Still, I'll be there whenever the game is played.

I mean the ones that sit down when the opponents score a FREE THROW like they're going to keel over if they have to stand, clap and support the team playing awesome defense.

Stand up and have some fun, people!

I stayed standing and clapping tonight until the field goal was made. I think it irritated some people, but that is what we are suppose to do. IT WAS THAT WAY LAST YEAR TOO PEOPLE!!! Maybe Don Hall can tell people to keep standing after the free throw is made....maybe then they would get it.

If the game was known in advance I dont see why people cant get the time off. Now granted everyones situation was different. I could get the time off but I might not be motivated to really if we are playing a team like UAM at 1pm on a tuesday afternoon.
