The Valley didn't have any bad losses by their top teams like the SEC had, but, as an upper-tier mid major, we had no marquee wins either. At best, the week was nondescript.
Not having an opportunity this week to have a win, (or at least a good showing), over a BCS school, our top teams didn't help our cause to improve our conference stature. A slim victory by our #1 team, UNI, at Denver was probably the highlight. It would have been nice to have gotten at least one win out of the Dayton / BYU games. They were road games, but that's where you can really make a statement as a team and a conference.

I'm about ready to give up on conference wins being good for the other teams in the conference. I doubt it works that way in the non-BCS leagues any more.
A non-BCS school has to have at least one (preferably 2) OOC W's over name schools, finish high in their league, and finish high in their league tournament to get a bid.
I think 2006, when the Valley put 4 schools in the Dance, ended non-BCS league games as counting in the formula for an invite. If you want to count a league W as a W that matters, then you better beat a legitimate top-20 team in the league. RPI is used to eliminate non-BCS schools - not invite them. Piling up a bunch of W's against teams with RPI's in the 30 - 50 range doesn't mean squat any more. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

Now, it's schedule every name team you can beg into playing and then go out and win those games. Unless there's a top-20 Valley team, ignore conference wins as a reason to get an invite. Conference losses can cost an invite, but W's won't get one. It's the opposite for the BCS leagues. For them, conference Ws get an invite and losses don't cost an invite.
It doesn't seem that the Valley will have a top-20 team this year, so (in my opinion) it doesn't matter what the other Valley teams do in OOC games.
Our chances for an at-large bid pretty much come down to Pitt and Texas, winning the regular season, or winning the tournament. There is no other way. All that's required is that we take care of business. The Valley needs to be good enough that winning the conference, but not getting the automatic still gets an invite, but that's the extent of reliance on other Valley teams. The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
