I listened to the game the other night and it sounded like Garrett was un-stopable for a while. Was it because of the shorter competition or ??? Sounded like he was a dunking machine.
Garrett had a pretty good game offensively. A couple of dunks, some good bunnies, one very pretty tip-in on an inbounds play. Defensively, he still had some cobwebs in the brainpan, but nowhere as lost as last year. He took a charge, and didn't give much ground. He committed a chrage and sent the guy flying, so he's beefier at least.

Newman was short and small in frame.
He did look quite a bit more comfortable than last year. He will play smarter this year.
I am not sure he deserved the charge, which he was assessed. However, I was an the opposite end of the floor. So, I might not have had a good sight line on the play.
His footspeed and jumping ability remains unchanged.
I think he has gained about 25 pounds.
"Prediction is very difficult, especially if it is about the future."
Newman called a timeout and changed their D to stop Stutz. After they doubled him on passes inside, it slowed him down. He was consistently getting past a single defender for a dunk.
Now he needs to learn to find the open man when he gets doubled.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades. We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.
Agreed. If nothing else, he is better conditioned and more able to run the floor than Eglseder, so even if all else is even, he will be able to stay on the floor for more minutes than Eglseder does.

RDR I think that it may be a little unfair to say that his quickness and jumping ability remain unchanged. I would agree with a statement that there isn't dramatic change, but I'm not sure that we should expect a significant change in 6 months. Miller's upper body strength improved dramatically over 5 years but it didn't happen before his redshirt year (2nd year). His long arms will take a lot of work to improve their definition.
In my opinion his biggest improvment came in the area of aggressiveness. Last year he rarely attempted dunks and he went to the hole aggressively at every opportunity. However, when he plays against a tall, strong Center, he will still struggle this year.
There will be some good evalulations when they play SIU, etc. I just hope that he incrementally continues to improve so that when he is a Jr. or Sr. he is ready to be an ALL VALLEY player. I think that anything more is too high of expectations and unfair to him.

According to Coach Marshall tonight, Garrett's foot speed and jumping ability has improved some.

Shockall, I'm not certain, but you may have to rethink that attitude and position before the season is over.
Stutz has the tools and is doing a pretty good job of growing into his body. There were times Saturday when he was a dominating force that could not be stopped. Yeah, yeah, I know, D2, inferior talent, but last year Stutz would not and could not have done what he did against Newman. At least not the way he did it. Stutz is growing up.

I saw his potential during the Centenary game last year. He pretty well dominated that one from the get go....
22pts
10-13 FG's
2-2 FT's
2 assists
1 turnover
2 blocks
Only 3 rebounds, but this was only his 3rd game as a Shocker!
I still believe we will see alot more of that before he is done here. He'll probably never be outstanding on the boards, but I would take those stats with about 8 boards anyday!
