Indiana St def Rose-Hulman 89-50 in their first exhibition of the season

Infused with new blood, the Indiana State Sycamores raced to an 89-50 exhibition victory over cross town foe Rose-Hulman in front of 4,812 fans at Hulman Center. Indiana State and Rose-Hulman met on the hardwood for the first time since 1932.

Speaking of exhibitions, I think the Newman coach is supposed to be on KGSO this morning for his coaches show, and if anyone has the ability to listen, I'd be interested in hearing about what he says regarding Saturday's game.

I unfortunately can't listen at work or I would...

Jays won 94-69. It would seem as though rebounding may be an issue again as they were outrebounded in the 1st half 22-20.

Too bad, I was hoping they would get La Moyned....

Actually just checked...according to game tracker they were outrebounded 44-28..... That may fly in the pre-season...but not in the Valley LOL. Missouri Western had 19 offensive rebounds....

Oh and the "best recruit in the Valley...the coveted 4* Andrew Bock"

          2pts
          1-4 FG
          0-2 3pt
          0 Reb
          1 assist
          1 turnover
          2 steals
          3 fouls
          11 min

Granted, it was his first game in front of a crowd that big...but I like poking fun at the Bluejays anyway I can..... :D

The jays may have to shoot over 75% on the season to make up for their rebounding. Even Woodfox wasn't that good.

Box score confirms the 44-28 rebound edge to Missouri Western.

BTW, after 7' Brandon Beck, the tallest player for Missouri Western is 6'6", yet they had 4 players with 5 rebounds and 2 players with 4 rebounds.

Lest you think that what they lack in height, they make up for in bulk, Beck is also the heaviest player at 220 lbs.

In spite of this, Kenny Lawson, at 6'10" 250 lbs managed 4 points and 3 rebounds. While playing 1 less minute than Lawson, Beck managed 7 points and 5 rebounds. O yeah, Lawson also committed 4 fouls to Beck's 1.

CU being outrebounded 44-28 shows a serious lack of basketball fundamentals. Ouch!

Dana is nothing if not consistent. I think CU teams are typically poor rebounding teams not due to poor fundamentals (one can hardly accuse a CU team of that and keep a straight face) but due to these ideals:

Dana is the type of coach that likes to do 2 things....

1)He wants to take you out of your comfort zone. You want to run? He'll soft press to make you walk up the court. You want to slow it down? He'll press hard and give you long passes to entice you to speed up....his goal or advantage might not be evident on a single posession, but tends to show up in arrears.

2)He will hide his own weaknesses (in this case rebounding) by accentuating his strengths. His team isn't a big, strong high rising team so he isn't going to send everyone to the glass, he's going to send 2 out wide and deep to break if and when they get the rebound or score...you want to pound the offensive glass? Fine, we'll be shooting layups on the other end....at least that's how I see it.

That is a fair statement. I still think blocking out for rebounds is a fundamental part of the game. I don't think HCGM would be happy getting beat on the boards that way regardless of any special game plan.

I had to pull up the article to see if they were really beaten that badly on the boards. Double Ouch!

If the Shockers outrebound them by that much, we ought to have a sure win. I can't wait until Jan. 9! :goshocks:

Last season we out rebounded them 38-32 and lost, 47-22 and won and 48-26 and won.
