  • RIP ......... Al Littleton

Al Littleton (1973-82, 1989-95), who served two stints as head coach, and also played at WSU from 1947-50, the Shockers dominated the Valley field. The winningest coach in Shocker history, Littleton is responsible for three of the Shockers’ conference titles, and also guided WSU to four NCAA Championship appearances during his first stint as head coach.

Al will be missed by all......... he was a good man ............

My Uncle (Tom Hanson) and Al were rivals , teammates , and friends. They were the 2 best high school players in the city , Al played for North , and my Uncle played for East. They went on to become teammates while playing for the Shocks , and remained lifelong friends. Both men were also good enough to make careers out of the game.

    RIP

Al was a good teacher and a great golfer. Sometimes it took more than that. He would drive the WSU golfers and his wife to road matches. One time he had to open the back of the van to get to something while stopped at a gas station. Empty beer bottles rolled and rolled out onto the concrete. A rather tenuous moment in Shocker golfing history.

      RIP

When I first saw the name Littleton, I was thinking Cleo since this was in a basketball thread. Then I saw "winningest coach in Shocker history" and was thinking, "Was there someone better than Ralph Miller?" Then I read the goshockers article and realized it was the golf coach.

        RIP.
