I think it's great. We complain about the Valley not getting respect on the national scene, what could be more respectful than getting completely undeserved votes in national polls? The very fact that they DON'T deserve the votes but got them anyway makes this very positive in my mind.

If the teams getting "undeserved" votes in the preseason fail to live up to that notice, then that might enhance the belief that the MVC is undeserving because it doesn't live up to expectations.

I'll take that trade-off. Shoot, we've got a team that finished 13-18 last year getting votes in the polls, rationality is not in the cards here. I'd rather the MVC gets irrational exposure than hide in the corner because we're afraid someone might not live up to expectations.

The same holds true for teams that make NCAA tournament but never get anywhere. One reason I'm adamantly against any claim of creighton as the Valley standard.

I just think it's great that 3 Valley teams got votes. It really doesn't matter which teams they are right now. It's like the all-league selections. It's a lot better to be on the post-season all-Valley lists than to be on the pre-season lists.

UNI got a little respect in AP polls on the east coast. Here is who voted for them and their ranking:

#24 from Frince Star (Fredricksburg VA),
#25 Roanoake VA times,
#25 The State (Columbia SC),
#23 WCMC-FM, Raleigh NC, #
#23 STL Dispatch,
#25 Daily Herald, IL,
#22 Idaho Statesman

If they can get off to a good start in their non-conference season they will have a chance to break the top 25.
