  • Rivals Valley Preview

Not really a mention of us in it other than we are predicted 4th.

The most overrated player is pretty good.

Not sure if you have to have a Rivals account to view this, but I'm sure most of you have an account anyways.

"Seven MVC teams have reached the Sweet 16 since 1994, and while league officials proudly can talk about postseason wins, everyone knows it's what you do in the NCAAs that really matters. "

That is a pretty decent statistic. No one from the valley has made it since 2006, so that was 7 times in 13 years. I think quite a bit of that success was the scheduling requirements. I guess too many coaches complained about their OOC won loss records.

SIU went to the 16 in 2007. Were jobbed out of the Elite 8 against KU.

It is frustrating that a major college website like Rivals can't give the MVC a better writeup than that.

Their site is based on college sports and they can't cover a mid-major conference that is constantly making noise more than a few paragraph story.

MVC schools don't have paid fan sites with them.

They don't have Jake Kelly on their first or second team?

P'Allen makes the list because Rivals had him rated as a top 100 4 star player. He makes first team by default on a recruiting service.

They give Bouchie an awful lot of respect. He is 6-10, 250 and averaged 7 points as a frosh. at Valpo, but I don't see him being better than Freeman, or Kelly. There are also several high level juco transfers joining the league this year. Blair may or may not be a better player than Bouchie.

It is kind of funny that they rate him most overrated yet he makes first team. Makes sense.

                    From Bradleyfans.com:

BTW- Creighton also had an open scrimmage - ony 500-1000 showed up...that's quite surprising for the team with the biggest fan base and over 11,000 season ticket holders!
                    also this comment...kinda weird...
"the scrimmage was not covered by any major media outlet in Omaha"
                    ..so whazzup??
                    http://creighton.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1006380
So, "The Bluejay Cafe" covered it, but wasn't covered my any "Major Media Outlet".

Ouch, MP...that's gotta sting a little!

Or, perhaps, the other stations in town (TV, Radio, Internet) all heeded his warning to not publish anything that may be found on the "PAY SIDE"?

C Jordan Eglseder, 7-0/280, Sr., Northern Iowa, that's the one I wonder about 1st team.

Don't tell anyone I said this, buy I think J.T. has as good a chance at 1st team as he does. I know he's a senior, but I haven't been that impressed with him.

I don't know if it is that he is that good or just lack of choices. Look at the 2nd Team C, he is also the Newcomer of the Year. Basically, they think there is one center in the league coming back worth anything.

Hopefully, by the end of the year we have a couple they overlooked.

Im in the boat of he only gets praise because he is a big body. The dude has been pretty unimpressive IMO the times that i have seen him.

The fact that Garrett had him beat quite a few times offensively last year should be pretty teliing....

Eglseder went to the Pete Newell Big Man Camp this past summer. We all know what that did for Paul Miller. I'm not expecting Eglseder to have developed a sweet Jack Sikma step-back jump shot, but I do expect that he learned some skills and banged with some bodies that he has not been able to do at UNI. Learn how to handle his body. Learn some moves. Learn how not to foul. Get in shape.

As stated many times before it takes many years for a big man to develop. I think that from a skill-set standpoint, Stutz is ahead of where Eglseder was as a sophomore. Time will tell. More and more big men are coming to the Valley...except for Creighton. I expect everyone to punish them on the inside.

Creighton is not deep inside, but Lawson is 6-9, 250, athletic and skilled and they have juco AA Wayne Runnels that is 6-6, 215. He averaged 22 and 11 as a sophomore. Chad Millard is no star, but no slouch either. Creighton will be dangerous inside if teams don't pay attention.

Bradley, Drake, Evansville (despite adding Bouchie), Indiana St, SIU, and MSU will be week inside and can be exploited.

UNI has the best one-two with Kock and Eglseder.

Ill St will also be strong with Lewis (6-7, 230 juco transfer averaged 22 and 12) and Odiakosa (big body averaged 9 and 8 last year).

I think we have the deepest front court in the league with four guys that get major minutes at any Valley school.

For me, The four teams that have strong post play finish in the top four Valley positions.
