  • The audio issues are not a new problem are they? In any case, I wonder how much of that is simply attributable to the accoustics associated with the arena which may also be a factor on how loud it can be in there when the fans get into it.

I also would like the 3-point shooting contest back in some form or the other.

Even worse = Greg the hitman Williams. What a joke! He should never be allowed to hold a mic!

              • I agree with all of you that OUR PA System IS TERRIBLE. It's a shame that with all the money spent on this and that, that we can't have a PA system in the KOCH that people can hear clear. While I'm wishing...... I hope this years version of the team intro video/music is good for a change. It just seems like the crowd can't ever clap to or get in rhythm to this presentation. This if done correctly, would be a great advantage for the good guys.

                • It's not the PA system - it's the building. Yes, the same thing that makes it loud makes it hard to hear the PA.

It's a faster version of what happens with the Star Spangled Banner at Eck. At Eck, you hear the singer and about a second later you hear the PA. That's because of the distance the sound has to travel from the speakers in the scoreboard to your ears.

The same effect happens in CKA. You're hearing all the speakers. Obviously the ones closer to you and pointed at you are louder, but you can still hear the others. Then there are echoes from EVERY speaker. You're going to hear the echoes off the wall from the ones pointed at you a little later than you hear the speaker. It's so little you hardly notice. Add in all the other speakers and their echoes and the sound comes out muddy. It's not a long enough delay to hear two distinct things - like at Eck. It's just a long enough delay and enough sources of delay that you hear muffled, muddy sounds.

Sorry, the same thing that makes it loud makes it a difficult room for PA.

If you could do a single source or a single location (like a band on a stage), then it works a lot better, but the relative volumes from "right in front" of the speakers to "across the gym" from the speakers makes that impractical for basketball.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.

This is right on, and the problem compounds when bodies aren't absorbing sound energy in the top third of the building.

Put 10,500 in the seats and most of the problems solve themselves.

Here are a couple stills from the first dunk but the video is coming. I'm just putting it together with some other stuff.

I think the one where he caught it from behind the backboard, turned and dunked with 2 hands was the most impressive. That was nuts!!!
"He called me around noon and was thrilled," Brandt said. "He said he was going to be a Shocker forever." -- RIP Guy, you WILL indeed be a Shocker forever!
