  • Around the Valley - Midnight Madness

Curious what else can be brought to the table by people paying attention to the other programs.

Trying to follow the Salukis, I extracted the following:

1)Freeman is going to be very, very good.

2)SIU has the most athletic team in the Valley's history.

3)It is unlikely SIU loses more than a handful of games this year...they are that good.

4)It would appear that Ryan Hare has been permanently dismissed from the program. Details will likely emerge over the next few days.

5)Losing a starter shouldn't matter as the Dawgs are that talented and deep.

I know they have that Crowder kid from Cowley (I think?). They seem to think he'll be an All-MVC the way they talk about him LOL. It may or may not happen, but they are definately pretty excited about him.

        Indiana St fans:

        1) Thought there needs to be more effort on the glass

        2) Most athleticism that the fans have seen in a long time

        3) Deep enough team to run for 40 mins and still have fresh legs

        4) Kelly is top 5 talent in the history of Indiana St Basketball...already

        5) Koang is a freak of an athlete

Sounds like disappointment is on its way to Carbondale.

We, as Shocker fans, have great expectations for the Shoxs this year -- why would you not think other Valley fans would have those same great expectations for their teams?

Midnight Madness reviews are sort of like ffb post-draft reviews. Before any games are played everyone likes their teams and think they've got the necessary ingredients to win a championship.

I'm well aware of the many homers that are apart of this board, as I am always constantly labeled a "Negative Nancy".

Call it great expectations if you want. I call it homerism.

I think most fans here have reserved expectations for the upcoming season.

Personally, while mine may have been a bit higher than the average, those expectations have taken a hit since the start of school.

Any improvement on last year's record and Valley placing would be a favorable result for me at this point.

I guess I am the most optimistic soul.

I think our record in the Valley will be 13-5 or better.

The keys to my expectations are as follows:

                          1. Garrett's all around performance

                          2. Murray's made shot percentage, particularly 3 point shot.

                          3. Blair's contribution.

I can't begrudge others of their optimism. Maybe they are right.
I can say I liked WSU's progress to finish the year, especially that come back win vs Creighton @ the MVC.
I saw a couple of fast guys last night and one of them was no match for a motorcycle.
Even if the athleticism claims are absolutely true, I can think of a Syracuse team a couple of LSU teams. How about the athleticism of that Tennessee team we played in the round of 32?
Actually I hope these claims are true. It will help WSU's RPI.
