Miami, Johnson, Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties are a single metro area that is made up of several cities that, taken together, are far and away the largest built up area in the state. My point is that there is little to no interest in WSU outside of a 60 mile radius of Wichita. If you go into any sports apparel store anywhere in Kansas outside of Wichita there are very few, if any, WSU products for sale. Not saying that's a bad thing. If WSU doesn't want a presence outside Sedgwick county that's fine but that simply is the way it is. Possibly the Board of Regents sees the WSU mission as serving Wichita as a commuter school while the 5 other state schools serve the rest of the state in a more traditional college atmosphere.
You are proving how relative Wichita and WSU are to you. It's affecting you to the point where you are spouting off radio station jargon, Kansas City metro statistics, and the overall skewed visibility of WSU. It makes you mad (for some odd reason) that Wichita and WSU get more attention than you want them to get. And you can't take it. That's why you're wasting your precious time on a WSU board blasting defensive barbs left and right out of your poop chute.

Nobody here cares about the metropolitan statistics of a made-up statistical area you created for Kansas City. Nobody cares about Kitten State. So actually, you can spare us with your Aggie Technical Institute BS that we care nothing for. We are much like the people of Kansas City in regards to KSU. We don't care.

Whoa. You just threw Miami County into the KC Metro? Well, I guess you'd better include Harver, Reno, Butler, Cowley, and Sumner with Sedgwick.

Well KSU is KSU, and my granddaughter wants to go to KSU because their color is purple, which is also her favorite color.

I have been trying to interject WSU into her mindset, and it's working a little.

FWIW, not much really, OMB defines the KC MSA as containing the following counties in Kansas:
Johnson, Wyandotte, Franklin, Leavenworth, Linn and Miami.

          Wichita MSA:
          Butler, Harvey, Sedgwick and Sumner.

Apparently BCSCat, you just increased the number of counties that couldn't care less about K-State.

              Butler County cares about K-State.

There's lots of cows in Butler County and somebody's got to take care of those cows. It's through the fine efforts of K-State that Kansas has so many people so well-equipped at taking care of cows.

It's true that where there's cows, there's KSU grads.

Wait a minute. There are cows in Butler County? I need to pay more attention when I drive.

I think I do see a few along 254 on my way into Wichita...

                    Maybe there located farther east

You do realize that all land grant schools have a College of Agriculture including Michigan State, Missouri, Rutgers, Penn State, Wisconsin, Cal-Berkley and many others one would not paint as an "Ag". school? Besides, while the College of Agriculture at K-State is a good one and vital to our state (Agribusiness is the number one industry in Kansas) the top ranking programs at K-State are mostly in engineering and architecture. K-State also has the largest College of Education in the state and graduates the most teachers every year.

So enjoy that steak! I may be a city boy but I married a farmer's daughter and I know first hand that those people in the rural areas many of you here like to make fun of are the backbone of our great state.

BTW, how many Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater, and Udall recipients has WSU produced? Any?

The architects and engineers that KSU graduates leave the state. That leaves the teachers and the animal husbandry grads from KSU in Kansas.

Most of the KSU fan base is in places like Oakley, Bucklin, Medicine Lodge, and other smaller communities.

Most of the WSU fan base is in Wichita.

There's a lot of stereotyping that goes on between people who live in cities and those who live in smaller towns.

I grew up in KSU country and now I'm a WSU fan in Wichita. It's two different worlds nicely tucked inside one little old state.

Our daughter is an Interior Designer (KSU '08) for Gossen-Livingston in Wichita and virtually everyone there is a KSU grad and that holds true for many of the firms in the state. Virtually everyone in her class is working in Kansas and the KSU Interior Design program has been ranked number one in the country the last 2 years. Historically it has been in the top 5 most years. Same holds true for many Kansas engineering firms.

There are thousands of KSU alumni and fans throughout the state. Take a stroll through the parking lot at a KSU sporting event and you will see license plates from all over the state. The KSU fanbase is not centered just in small towns and rural areas. Sedgwick county has one of the largest concentrations of KSU alumni in the state as do Johnson and Shawnee counties.

Look, WSU does a great job of fulfilling it's mission which is to provide a state university for the Wichita area. Wichita has very little to offer in professional sports so WSU has become the top sports attraction here. However it does not have the state - wide presence that KU (there are plenty of KU alums out west) and KSU have. That's not bad - it's just the way it is.

Let's just get a series going again in basketball (men's and women's) and have fun with it. I'm tired of arguing with fellow Kansans.

                            Now those hillbillies at Mizzou...........

You wouldn't have to be arguing with fellow Kansans if you wouldn't be starting your same old BS every time you come around this WSU.. emphasis on the WSU.. board.

KSU's presence in Wichita is not that high. It's a distant 3rd in the pecking order in the city, much like it is in the Kansas City area. Kansas State's presence is clearly in all of the smaller, rural communities of Kansas - especially western Kansas. That's just the way it is. Deal with it.
