Actually that is what the NCAA wants to do. They really would like to divide NCAA Div I for all sports into I-A and I-AA with a similiar split they have in the FBS (Football Bowl Subdivision) - except I suspect they would kick a couple conferences out of I-A.

The NCAA is not about having level playing fields or fairness. They are about making as much money as they can and paying off the big boy conferences to keep them happy.

No doubt that this is a significant consideration. Personally, however, I would gladly give up a couple of home games against the USC-Upstates and Alcorn States of the D-1 world for a roady at a decent BCS conference school. Any such games would likely be on the tube so we still get to see them. However, I understand I am probably in the minority here.

Hopefully, we would establish ourselves in "Gonzaga" fashion and down the road start getting some home-and-home games with the so-called Big Boys.

Not sure how realistic it is though to expect this to happen. Seems to me that WSU and its peers would be better off scheduling each other as much as possible and leaving the 200+ RPI teams as fodder for the Big Boys.

I remember seeing ranked teams in the roundhouse years and years ago. I think part of it may be that good teams do not want to come to WSU where it is tough to play and win UNLESS WSU is ranked and a win by the visitors means something. In other words, they don't want a lose-lose situation where is victory is expected and a loss is a killer; but instead want a win-win where a loss is to a ranked team and a win is worthy of recognition.

Remember when Nancy Pelosi said about Obamacare:
"We have to pass it, to find out what's in it".

A physician called into a radio show and said:
"That's the definition of a stool sample."

Without going back to check, I'm guessing this is a good part of what MVC teams did when the conference did their competion RPI quota. It seemed to work out well for the Valley at that time.
