If we can land an elite team by doing a one and done I'm fine with that. I just hope we don't sell ourselves out to lesser competition just to get a BcS school. I don't think that'll be a problem though. I would like to see a few more games with the likes of Mason or other teams on par with them as well. Those are games that could benefit both schools as well. The Tulsa deal we've heard about is definitely a step in the right direction. Another game or two like that would be helpful.

Everyone says "Like Gonzaga", why not play Gonzaga...

Perhaps we should create a list of schools we would like to see...

Taking into account that scheduling is about more than just winning. Its about cost, recruiting base, RPI, March, and most importantly not only being ahead at the end of the game in points, but all these factors.

My teams I would like to see on schedule with 1-1, or 1-1-1:

Gonzaga...obvious reasons. Quality program, good support nationwide.

Houston...great recruiting base. Easy travel. great recruiting base....or did I already say that?

Clemson... team from Coach's home area. strong recruiting base.

Illinois...recruiting area, Valley ties, solid program with good support.

Teams I would love to play, even if 2-1, that would be beneficial:

Kansas...Sorry for those who oppose it, but even if we set it up as a "Sprint Center" every other year tournament type setup to benefit both programs.

Texas...Recruiting...recruiting...recruiting...pla y every team in Texas as far as I'm concerned.

UCLA...An area that many very good recruits come from, but typically suffer from "West Coast Bias" as most kids from east are considered tougher, and better because of competition they play against.

Teams I would love to see as 1 time games during good years:

      UNC, Kentucky, Connecticut, and Florida.

I wouldn't mind seeing something worked out with Mason or VCU as we've recruited some in VA. I wouldn't mind someone like UAB. I'm not sure what non-BcS teams are in the South but any of them would do.

I'd be all for seeing something set up with Georgia Tech or Virginia. I agree that Clemson would work. Pretty much anyone in TX. Any chance we could get Tennessee? 0U or OSU. Mizzou. Illinois. Minnesota. Memphis. Louisville.

Anyway, as far as selling out I'd go for UNC, UCONN, UCLA, Kentucky or even Puke. Big name teams which would bring big time prestige.

BCS schools and MWC aside, here's a nice list to pick from: Dayton, Temple, Xavier, Duquesne, St. Louis, VCU, George Mason, ODU, Western Kentucky, North Texas, Butler, Cleveland St., Akron (I just want to know more about their football program and stadium). Most anyone from C-USA or WAC.

Surely we could get at least 2 or 3 games a year from this list. Add in a 1-1-1 with a BCS school, a one and done with a top tier program, and a couple of games with BCS schools at a neutral site.

Gonzaga, and probably Xavier, won't likely happen. I wouldn't give them the satisfaction of a 1 and done and were going to be too dangerous for a 1-1. Might knock them from their lofty perch and take their place.

ST, I am not picking on you, but that list looks like Creighton this year, and frankly that's the LAST thing I want our schedule to look like.

I'd rather play the entire Patriot league than "look" like we are trying to schedule kinda tough.

KU won't play us, that's fine. What about Missouri at the Sprint Center?

What about Oklahoma at the Ford Center?

              What about Texas in Dallas?

I could go on and on.....let's go after the big prize.

I'll take OU or OSU in OKC, or Texas in Dallas every year.

I'd also take Tulsa in BOK with return at IBA.

KC has nice group of recruits the next few years, and any way we could get games in KC would be good.

It would be interesting to know which schools we have attempted to schedule, but flat turned us down since GM took over.

Then we can forget about even mentioning them and go after the ones we might have a chance of snaring. Logically, that is precisely what the coaching staff is attempting to do.

Scheduling has been a problem for years. The excuse amongst us is either, "No one will play us because we stink," or "No one will play us because we are too good."

And, let's face it, not many schools are anxious to play us even when we are simply mediocre. No matter what our cirmcumstances are, it generally seems we have problems in the scheduling area.

I don't have a solution, but the reputation that WSU has of being one hell of a place to play on the road has to certainly enter into this. Seems like we may have fallen into the realm of Pogo's famous quote, "We have met the enemy and he is us."

Love Coach Marshall but our schedule sucks. Going back to Turgeon, he always said the hardest part of his job was scheduling. No one wanted to play us because they had nothing to gain and something to lose. That was before AND when we were good. I can't imagine Oral Roberts and Tulsa won't give us a 1 and 1 or 2 for 2. Seriously? I pick them because travel wouldn't be an issue and they are decent RPI teams. Is it them or is it us who won't do that? Same with the Texas and other Oklahoma teams. Why not take a 2 and 1 or 1 and done (OU/Texas)? I laughed out loud with FL Intl. wanted out of a game with UNC. My thought was "who the hell is Fl Intl?" The big boys think the same thing about us unfortunately and until we can prove that we belong that's what we'll get. Until then, take some games that may not be 1 and 1's but are challenging, good for the RPI, and something the fans and players can get excited about. I love Shocker basketball, it is my sport of choice, but this non-conference schedule has no compelling games beyond Pitt and Texas. TCU maybe. Great. Now I'm all fired up. :-x

Doc - I'm not pickin' on you either, but the Patriot League, really?!?

I dislike sCUm as much as the next on this board, but their schedule this year is way, way above ours. Michigan, Marquette or Xavier, Alabama/Baylor/Florida St or Iona, Dayton 27-8, Nebraska 18-13(compare to our TX Tech 14-19), George Mason 22-11, New Mexico 22-12, Arkansas-LR 23-8 (compare to our UMKC 7-24).

Gonzaga has earned the right to play 9 BSC schools this year. Let's learn to walk before we try to run. We've got 6 bad games on our schedule that I'd gladly replace 4-5 with the above non-tourney Creighton games.

If you completely read my post, I did include getting more top BSC schools on the schedule as well, even using a one & done.

I think the NCAA is going to have to fix this. How about some minimum standards for being a D1 team? How about limiting D1 to about 200 schools?

Has anyone noticed that some of the lower D1 football schools are starting to get some BCS home games? I believe I read that is because some rule sets a minimum number of home games each team has to play. They can no longer play those 3 home, 8 road game schedules. Less buy in opportunities for the big boys. Some are having to settle for 2 for 1's now and go to places they never would have gone before. If there were minimum schedules in BBall, maybe all the mids would start getting some home games.

All the scenarios for getting a better quality of non-con opponents involve fewer home games. I'm certain that weighs into the equation for scheduling. Fans want a certain number of games to watch in exchange for their SASO donations and season ticket purchases.

While this year's opponent RPI is pretty bad, this is one of the better years for non-con home games. TCU and Texas Tech in the same year is probably about as good as it gets.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

The sad thing is TCU and Tech don't appear to be all that great. They may highlight the home schedule but not sure how much they really offer.
