  • First WSU game at InTrust Arena

What is most important to you about WSU playing in IBA? Should the game be played this season even if it means playing a conference opponent? Or playing Emporia Sate or Fort hays State, for example? Or would you rather wait a year and schedule a high profile opponent in the fall of 2010?

Well It seems it is going to happen sometime this January-February against a conference opponent.
The mountains are calling, and I must go.

        Do we look like Creighton?

We don't need Intrust Bank Arena. We own CKA.

There are a couple of things that bear mentioning about games at IBA.

Sexton has said he's looking to play a game there this year, which means it would be a conference game. WSU has to play games there if WSU is to host a regional at IBA.

Any games scheduled at IBA are tied to a lot more things than just the fans desire of the types of games they want to see there.

The sooner WSU plays at IBA, the sooner Wichita is eligible to host an NCAA regional. The only non-con game this year that fits the time frame is Bracket Busters. I don't know if that's an attractive game to play in a larger venue. It seems better to take a game with more interest and see if WSU can sell out an extra 5K tickets.
The future's so bright - I gotta wear shades.
We like to cut down nets and get sized for championship rings.

I don't think this is correct. The arena hosting the tournament must have 1 game played there during the year, but it doesn't have to be the host school or league. For instance, last year FIU never played at American Airlines arena in Miami, but was the host for first and second round games there.

The school putting on the first and second round must have a practice game at the arena. For example, come September when the sites are announced should Wichita be hosting in 2012 then in 2012 they must hold a "practice" game at the arena. I think they should play in IBA once a year.

I see nothing wrong with WSU playing in IBA once a year AS LONG AS the opposing team is one that will generate enough interest to sell the other 5,000 seats.

Unless WSU can attract an opponent that will generate enough additional ticket sales to offset lost revenue from concessions and cost of renting the facility (unless free to WSU in anticipation of host site) then why would we do it? As far as this coming January/February I don't think a conference opponent will accomplish this.

The conference games that might meet these objectives are those which we certainly would not want to give up home court advantage of CKA.

There is no way in hell would we give up home court advantage by playing in IBA.

If we were to sell out the arena. I think it would be as loud as CKA. Intrust Bank Arena only has 65 foot tall ceilings. The Sprint Center has 85 foot ceilings I think so I believe it would be as loud or louder. We will only know until we play a game there.
