  • Pick Up Games - July 1, 2009

I have some good news and some bad news from an unnamed source.

The good news is the team played tonight and started around 6:00 P.M.

The bad news is I did not want to wait an hour, before I could see them play.

Further news from an unnamed source is as follows:

    1. I learned the name of the mystery player, who many have wondered about. His name is Alan Jones. He will be a sophomore at Neosho County Community College.

Note to Dr. Wu. - I was wrong about his home town. He is from Celina, KS.

    # 11

    Player: Alan Jones

    Class: Freshman

    Ht.: 6'0

    Wt.: 180

    Pos.: Combo Guard

    Hometown: Celina, TX

    High school: Celina HS

    2. According to my source, WSU got a little lucky with the recruitment of Demetric Williams because he could be playing for a higher D-1 school. As you might imagine, I was surprised and pleased by this news. Let's hope it works out in that manner.

    3. E.O. will not be here this summer.

    4. Demetric will be here this weekend.

    5. I commented to my source that if Coach Marshall wished, the Shockers, with its speed and quickness, could run a lot of teams into the floor. The source replied that is what the coaches have in mind and it is the reason the players are now playing with a 24 second clock in pick-up games.

    6. This news is discouraging to me. According to the source, it is not likely the team will start any pick-up games, prior to 5:00 P.M. The time is important because the doors to the arena are locked at 5:00 P.M.

Generally, the start time will be between 5:45 P.M.and 6:15 P.M.

The purpose of the later start time is to avoid conflicts with lifting, player class and running schedules.

Disclaimer: Based upon my past experience, I know these schedules are as firm as a handful of mercury. A southern boy might say that pinning down these schedules is like nailing Jello to a tree.

And those schools are higher D-1 schools then WSU? Preposterous

I think you could make the argument a middle-of-the-pack Pac-10 school is better than a middle-of-the-pack MVC school.

It is nice to see he chose the real WSU though.

Hey Ricky how sure was your source that E.O. was not going to be here this summer? My source was
pretty sure that he would be here in early Aug.

              He seemed pretty sure.

Of course, he might have him mixed up with Wilt the Stilt.

Hardly surprising that there are different stories considering what EO has said about the situation himself.

Orupke, a 7-footer from Nigeria, is taking classes and working camps this summer in Poplar Bluff. He may visit Wichita later this summer.

"It depends on my class schedule and camps," he said.
On the one hand, he has expressed interest in coming and on the other has had schedule conflicts. It may be that he was planning on coming, hence the early sources saying that he was, realized how full his schedule was and made the comment to the paper, and finalized that he won't be able to come, which is what Ricky's source heard.

Mr. Del Rio, are you ready to guarantee two wins against Northern Iowa this year?

                        :D

How about lunch on the 24th to celebrate birthdays?
Let's hope he can hit a D-1 Curve ball!

For you Shock Fans that have request some view on the progress Gabe and Demetric ,here goes. Gabe blairwill give use the same rebounding that Ramone did. He will be a better scorer and maybe a little better defensively. He will be a game changer for us. Now for Demetric, He played very well. Very good ball handeling skills and shoots the ball with confidence. I think he is still ajusting to Div. I Basketball. I do see a bright future for him as a Shocker.
