  • Pick Up Games - June 10, 2009

Some comments about today's games are as follows:

    1. Jerome Hamilton - Y'all are gonna love him. He is a long 6-6 and I believe he might be 6-7. Very athletic. On this day, he was drilling 3 balls. His facial features reminds me of Kobe Bryant.

    2. Tyler Richardson - A big kid. On this day, he really struggled from 3, during warm-up and games. And he jacked up a lot of them. Right before I left, he finally made one. Other than the clanking 3 balls, I really can't say much more about him. Please don't take this comment as a rag. Everybody has a bad day at the office.

    3. Kenny Manigualt - When he plays in regular games, he will make a lot of wow/groan passes. He likes the thread the needle passes. Perhaps too much. He is very athletic. Very quick as Cowboy has already stated. He has an attibute, which I really like. He is very active. He gets his hands on a lot of balls - deflections, interceptions, rebounds. Sometimes, it seems he is everywhere. I am sure everyone knows his reputation for turnovers. I suspect he will make too many his freshman year. He is not selfish with the ball at all.

    4. Demetric Williams of the Las Vegas Williams. He will not be on campus until July.

    5. I am so impressed with David K. and his athleticism and 3 ball shot making. His athleticism is damn impressive.

    6. Toure Murray. He is faster, stronger, more confident and more aggressive. My sight line angle might have fooled me, but it looked like there was more arch on his shots. Not Clevin Hanna like arch, but improved over last year. I think he will be a load this year, when he dribble penetrates.

    7. If JT is not a monster this year, I will be surprised. He is playing with a lot of confidence. He might struggle against big 7-0 centers, but he will do fine against most defenders.

    8. Gabe Blair was not there.

    9. In case anyone is wondering, Clevin has not lost his shooting touch. He was in the wow zone today. For those of you, who think Manigault will be starting next season, forget it.

    10. Garrett played a short while. His play seemed very average. However, he did seem way more confident in his demeanor and play.

    11. If Coach Marshall decides to play racehorse basketball, this will be his line-up as follows:

    1 Manigualt
    2. Murray
    3. Kyles
    4. Hamilton
    5. Durley/Blair

That bunch will be a load and will run opponents into the ground with their athleticism.

    12. We have a lot of upgrades over last season. Next season will be great fun and we will not be playing on Thursday in STL.

    13. No EO sighting and I forgot to ask one of the players about him.

I arrived around 4:10 P.M. Shoot around began around 4:15 and continued until about 4:45 or so. Then play began. I left at 6:00 and they were still playing.

If you go, be sure to arrive before 5:00 because the doors are locked at 5:00. Sometimes, if business is slow, the doors are locked 5-10 minutes before 5:00.

I've been telling you guys since last summer that you'd like Hamilton :D I'm sure most will LOVE this kid. We couldn't take our eyes off of him at the camp last year. He's gonna be a lot of fun.

so is Hamilton a power forward? Is he really a 3-ball shooter (ie. Kyle Wilson) or is he just jacking them up in practice?

If he's developed an outside game that's new. He's always been considered a PF and I'm sure that's what he'll be. But if he's not capable of stretching the D a bit it's a bonus. The talk had been that he was great around the basket but very raw offensively and needed to work on his shot. There was a report during his SR year that he'd hit a handful of 3's in a game and I was skeptical. But if he's worked that hard to develop his shot we're all just going to love him that much more.

HE IS A BEAST AROUND THE BASKET!!!

                            No tall high school players.

There were two short, blocky looking players, who you would never think were ballers. They looked like 5-9 fullbacks. One was surprisingly effective.

There was a third player, who was about 5-9 or 5-10. He was quick and he could shoot effectively from anywhere. He wore white shoes with orange soles and trim. He played with so much confidence and maturity, I thought he might be a juco player.

Your power forward question is a good one. My guess is he is a 4. If he has an effective mid-range jumper, he probably can play the 3. I believe he can guard a 3 without difficulty.

Yes, he did shoot a lot of 3 balls and shot well. I have no idea, whether he was just horsing around or not. Also, I have no idea, whether he is an effective 3 ball shooter on balance.

Based upon basketball body type, he is very easy on the eyes.
