This started in the Recruiting Forum, but it seems legitimate to move my response to the main Basketball Forum.
I don't want to get into a comparison between Turg and Marshall - they are different guys with different approaches.
I've got to use use Turg's recruiting as an example. There's no better way to get a grasp of what is going on at WSU. Marshall's first two recruiting classes seem to be at the level of the best two recruiting classes Turg had in 7 years.
Marshall recruits longer and more athletic players than Turg recruited to WSU. Marshall is going to have a couple of weak recruiting years coming up. There's imbalance in classes and Marshall has a couple of years coming up with not many scholarships available. That will move him more into Turgeon's territory on overall recruiting.
I think Marshall is recruiting overall better players than Turgeon recruitied. I think WSU will have fewer recruiting busts (Wall, Bangles, Butler, Brown, Green, Bradley) under Marshall than under Turg.
Turg did put together a "lightning in a bottle" team. Miller, Wilson, Ogirri, and Cooz were one of the best combination of players in WSU history. Marshall has that S16 in his sights and he has to get there to pass Turg on the list of the best coaches in WSU history.
I think Kyle Wilson will end up as one of the most underrated players ever at WSU.
