I also don't think UNI will repeat, although they will probably be in the top half. I feel that UNI got the most of it's players last year out of all the other young teams, however, I don't think their ceiling is near as high as far as talent and athleticism goes to keep up with the other young teams. I feel there are at least 2-3 other teams that will pass UNI by this year just because they've improved that much from last year.

UNI could be extremely dangerous this season... hitting people in the mouth from all angles.

I can almost guarantee you that UNI will not repeat as MVC champions in men's basketball next year. I don't know who will win but it won't be UNI. Illinois State will play out of their minds against UNI in 2009-10 in revenge for being swept in 2008-9. WSU beat the "great" UNI team at home and, while UNI will have the same players, WSU will be stronger. UNI will not go 8-1 in road games in the MVC next year.

I don't think I ever said they are a great team, but I would favor them to win the MVC right now. I don't know how you can be so definitive that they won't win the league. This is a team that went 14-4 and didn't lose anyone of significance. You have to think they'll do well again.

UNI, ISU, WSU, BU, CU. SIU -- this is going to be a hell of a conference this season.

I'm not going to say you're an idiot; what I think is private. It was obvious from your selections for the All-MVC teams that you expect UNI to repeat. Do you know the history of the Valley? It is very difficult to repeat. Very Difficult!!!

I do know the history of the MVC, better than most. Didn't SIU win four in a row earlier this decade? And I'm pretty sure Tulsa and ISU won back-to-back championships in the 90s. I'm not saying that UNI will absolutely do it, but it can be done.

The league will be much better this year, so it will be tough. I'd still say UNI will be the preseason favorite, and should find some preseason top-25 votes.

They may be preseason favs just because they won the league last year, but they won't be in it at the end. They'll be lucky to finish 3rd. I'm guessing 4th or 5th.

I guess I'm still trying to figure this out... does the Shocker community just largely hate UNI? They finished 23-11, won the MVC Tournament, and played Purdue awfully close. They return their entire starting lineup, and most of their subs.

I'm not saying WSU won't be very good, but I can't see where people would pick them 4th or 5th. Maybe they'll end up there, but they are one of the two strongest teams in the league at this point.

To be honest, I don't think many of us have much respect for UNI (or Drake, or I could name a few others). No hate, just don't consider them much of a basketball program and probably never will be. They could (and did) win the Valley every once and awhile, but that's about it. No chance of them being a national power, and we on the other hand want that again so bad, it will happen.

I don't have any problem with you picking UNI #1 for next year. I thought on paper that they are the team to beat. As you said, they finished #1 and return all of their starting five. Some people might not like UNI, but I don't think there is a lot of hatred. If you want to get Shocker fans excited mention Creighton.

This is a very similar thing that Drake did the year they almost went through the valley season without a loss. And look what they did the following year (last year).

I do see the logic with them being picked #1 PRESEASON...so that I won't argue if that should happen. But personally I will be VERY surprised if they finish in the top 4 next year. I think they overachieved by a landslide last year while a team or two underachieved....and this year they would have to overachieve even more IMHO.

That's certainly possible, although Drake also lost some key people, whereas UNI won't.
