Ok, now that we've gotten that out of our systems, let's reset.

I was hoping to have a "healthy" discussion of how Sedgwick County, The City of Wichita (translation: http://www.sedgwickcounty.org/arena/ ) and WSU (translation: an obviously rising Shocker Basketball program) should take advantage of their combined valuable resources to promote all of the above (translation: MONEY, PRESTIGE)

It was not meant to create a Stolly-induced recreation of a wiretapped phone conversation although I must admit, after several Newcastles, that the imagined conversation was slightly entertaining.

It was not meant to devolve into a KU or KSU variant as, obviously, "Elite" was in the thread title.

I understand the Notre Dame derision as they aren't "Elite" in the basketball sense, but they do have a huge fanbase (translation: NBC).

Nevada has played KU, UNC, and UConn and others in recent years. Now tell me we can't do it.

Imagine how a TAM game would be presented by CBS complete with MT returning to his beloved former program and a pregame clip of the newly

TAM hired tearful MT press conference?

By itself alone, That's good stuff.

There's a lot of potential here with these combined assets if someone or some group has the vision to make it happen.

    We can only hope.

Shocker Basketball and TAM basketball would have to have a lot going for it if CBS came to town. I like the wishful thinking but ESPN is your better bet. I bet we could get TAM or Baylor in for a series

A second question I have about the Arena is, who initiates the request to host 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA Tournament. WSU hosted in the 90's so it isn't like they don't have any experience. INTRUST is big enough, the minimum seating requirements is 12,500. With an outside company managing the Arena that just makes for another hurdle that has to be cleared before we can host one. I think exciting times are coming

I always thought that the first round games had to be hosted by either an NCAA member institution or a conference. So WSU would be the only choice to host a first/second round of the NCAA tourney at the Intrust Arena.

That is true but since SMG manages WSU would have to get permission to host

I would expect that WSU would have to contact the the management of arean and make sure the schedule is free during this period and then they would probably have to come to some agreement on profit sharing before proceeding with their application to the NCAA.

I remember hearing something to the fact that the ncaa will not accept a bid for a ncaa regional til the construction was completed. I heard this on the sports daily show.
Marge: The plant called and said that if you don't come in tomorrow, don't bother coming in Monday.
                Homer: WOOHOO! Four day weekend.

I believe that is true because if I remember right, NCAA officials have to tour the arena before they decide.

                      Agreed.

I could handle bringing in 0U, OSU, Texas, Mizzou, UNC, Memphis, UK, UCLA, G'Town, UCONN, Gonzaga, Nova.

There may be others but that's what I have off the top of my head.

Haha. Link? We've sold out the Sprint Center for every game we've played there easily. Not sure where you're getting your info.

We make $700K per home game.

Maybe what he is getting at is that the Arena doesn't look full even though every seat is sold.

I've been to each KU game at Sprint Center and trust me it's full.

The only thing I can think is that the Sprint Center wasn't full for many of the CBE Classic tournament games that didn't feature KU, and wasn't full for the NCAAs, although I'm pretty sure it was techinically sold out for each game.

Actually I have to correct myself and say that tw was right that we didn't sell out our regular season game against UMass, according to the box score and ESPN recap. Sure looked full to me, but I guess I was mistaken.

"The game was played at the Sprint Center, about 45 minutes from KU's campus. It was still considered a home game for the Jayhawks and felt like it, with most of near-sellout crowd of 17,252 wearing red and blue, cheering like it was Allen Fieldhouse."

I would still like to see where KU has said anything relating to a game not happening in IBA because of a game against UMass in Sprint Center.

I think there's a decent chance that KU plays a team besides WSU in IBA as a neutral game at some point.

                                I'd like to see:
                                KU
                                Tulsa
