  • INTRUST Bank Arena and Shocker scheduling "Elite Progr

I think the AD and GM have got to start looking at bringing in some of these schools for 1 or 2 games a year. This should become a normal part of the schedule and should also be part of a long-term TV package. Start with Notre Dame or UCLA and get a new tradition started at the IB!!!

    Am I right?

Don't worry too much about it. Just do all you can do and let the rough end drag.

Definitely,, Imagine 16000 or so Shocker fans to see a game at the Intrust. It is a tool WSU can use. It is up to them to take advantage of it.

Scheduling will be a problem however...

I'd like to see a game or two a year played at the Intrust Arena. It will be a problem getting the big boys to come here to play though. I'd like the opening game to be against one of the Big 12 schools in Kansas or Oklahoma. KU is probably a definite noway, the other three might be a possibility.

OU or OSTATE are great rivals due to proximity. We can fill the arena without the anxiety of the instate team.

I don't understand the logic. Why would some "big name" program decide to come to Wichita just because WSU is going to play a game at the Intrust Arena?

              Gregg: Good morning Roy

              Roy: Hello Gregg

Gregg: Please take me off speaker phone before you make me mad.

Roy: Sorry Gregg [click] is that better?

Gregg: Thanks Roy, much better. Roy we would like to invite you to Wichita to play basketball in november, we will even give you a 2 for 1.

Roy: Where is the game going to be played?

              Gregg: Koch Arena

Roy: No way will I play there. It won't hold all the NC fans in Wichita.

Gregg: How about the "Cow Palace"

Roy: Sorry, I have an allergy to cow poop

Gregg: I have an idea, how about we play at that new Arena that is opening in old-town.

Roy: That sound like a great idea. This will be so great. I love new arena's. Lets start a tradition.

I don't know if I'd like a home/"neutral" game in Wichita filled with thousands of fans from the other team.

I could see us offering a deal to either K-State or KU for a night of basketball. K-State or KU playing an elite Major Conference school for a neutral game and us playing a High Mid-Major. This would provide a buzz around Wichita. With profits from TV, ticket sales, and concessions being split 60/40. 60 to KU/K-State and 40 to WSU. KU would be ideal because of the TV package. It would be cool to see KU/you name it and Wichita State/Xavier, Gonzaga, Memphis, or Butler.

I agree but many of the state's major/"flagship" schools play in the same cities as a regional rival when that city is one of the state's major cities. Follow?

Kentucky has at least one home game in Louisville's Freedom Hall every year.

No way KU will ever play us again, not even in Lawrence will they play us. I think we could get Oklahoma State or Mizzou to come and play at the new arena.

KU has already said they're not going to play in Intrust because they "can't even fill the Sprint Center, and that's only 25 miles away." Perhaps they would change their minds, but I doubt it. I think they make around $500k per home game.

We could go down "memory lane" and play Tulsa but I doubt they would play us either. Even on an off year, we were very tough to beat at Wichita. This will become a trend and many will fear coming here or downtown. However, soon we will field a team that we can go play some '1 and done' games verus big teams as long as they give us National TV coverage and plenty of cold hard cash. You think the "Cuse" wants us back soon? :D
Shocker basketball will forever be my favorite team in all of sports.

I think we could fill the Bank. We manage to get around 10,000 into CKA in an off year so I bet if it was a marquee enough of a matchup we could fill it.
Plus the teams KU plays in the Sprint Center are creampuffs (excluding the tournament they played in last year).
