Nice to hear that Ramon is able to play pro ball, even better that he is able to do it while finishing out his course work. Sad that Bret's playing career ended the way it did. Very happy to hear that the coach is excited about the future of the team. I'll very excited about the future of the team, I'll be even more so if we can land a good SF to help Hatch out until Coy is eligible ( I think some of the current players would work here) and a guard to replace Chamberlain ( again current player will work). In our eagerness to sign somebody, aren't we setting our sights a little too low? I would hope that any SF we sign is at least equal to or better than Coy and the same holds even more so perhaps for Chamberlain replacement based on the talent we will already have on board. Otherwise, we should save at least one or both of these two slots for next year.

I wish it were easy to land someone as good or better than Coy. This late in the game that would be tough to do. But I believe we can sign guys that will move the program forward.

Who is showing this eagerness that you speak of? Coach has said that we will more than likely use one and if the right situation presents itself, possibly both scholarships. Trust me, coach isn't going to just sign anyone. If we do sign a player or two they will be expected to bring something to the table that is currently missing from the known returners. No worries here, as Mike Kennedy said last night, the program is in as good of hands as it has ever been in the 30+ years that he has been broadcasting Shocker basketball.

Tyler Richardson is nothing remotely close to 'settling' for what's left.
This has not been an "Oh, we had a player leave so let's look around and see what's left" recruitment.
He is in the mold of the type of player GM targets and recruits.
Take a close look at the roster (or Doc's recent analysis) and note the level of athleticism.
Count TR in the same club. 8)

Perhaps I misinterpreted the statement, but it sure sounded to me like this was a short term, stop-gap solution. I am not questioning Mr. Coy's skills in the slightest. In fact, I hope he hope he is a tremendous success.

No way did my comment pertain to GM, his ability to judge talent, to any of the recruits he has signed in the past, nor to those he is presently vigorously pursuing. He has raised the skill level of players he can now recruit to a significantly higher level than before.

I do not recall my questioning the capabilities of Tyler Richardson or any other named recruit, do you Shockref?

ShockRef, I appreciate your confirmation that GM's recruiting program is not to just grab any recruit whether we need him or not.

But we do not seem to be communicating along the same wave lengths.

My comment about setting our sights a little too low was in reply to another poster. I repeat, it was in reply to another poster, who commented we should recruit someone to assist Hatch until Coy becomes available. It had nothing to do with GM's recruiting philosophy of which I fully support and which I gather you do as well.

Not if you've been watching over and extended period of time.

Lets not forget that Gregg never stopped recruiting for '09 and has a number of recruits he'd be happy to have if spots opened up. The larger schools often don't go looking for talent as much as they're told where to find it. Many very good players slip through those cracks every year and we have the staff to know where a few of them are. Richardson could be a prime example of one of those players. I'm not sure about Scout but Rivals has nothing on the kid but from what I'm hearing he could be a nice catch.

Had Gregg not been recruiting all this time and not been prepared for departures I'd be a little more concerned about who we'd be able to bring in at this point. As it is....

Tyler is not on Scout either. He was mentioned in a Rivals' article but was not put in the database. I think this is due to the lack of articles produced by Rivals' Georgia site. If Tyler lived in Texas, Texas Hoops would of wrote an article on him and he would be in the Rivals data base. His level of recruitment appears to be pretty equal to most of the other players Marshall has brought in.

This is a situation where basketball and volleyball differ. Gregg might find a nice transfer but we'll have to wait a year to find out and, in my opinion, Phillip Thomasson and A.J. Hawkins turned out to offer less than we needed. My opinion is that we should keep both scholarships unless we get a freshman with a huge upside.

If you look at volleyball, you'll see that Texas, for example, brings in many more top recruits than can actually play in matches on a regular basis. A volleyball player can usually transfer and play immediately; you don't have to wait a year and spend a year's scholarship on an unknown quantity. If the open scholarships were in volleyball, I'd say sign a transfer who is a great player. I think basketball has been burned a little by transfers (in terms of quality) although Kyle Wilson was a nice player.

If the right transfer is out there I'm OK with it. I'd prefer that transfer was coming in and would be a SO. But I do agree that I'd much rather have FR. And I do believe we'll get at least one of those.

How often does a juco "need a year" to get used to D1? Hannah didn't. RC didn't. However it seems like lots do need a year to get up to speed, etc.
