Article at goshockers.com - nothing additional really. Best of luck with whatever you do AJ!

WICHITA, KAN. ? A.J. Hawkins, a 6-foot-5 junior guard, has decided to leave the Wichita State University men's basketball program at the end of the school year, WSU head coach Gregg Marshall announced today.

      Oh well

Didn't see that coming, but based on this past season this may be the least painful possible departure from among any of the remaining 12 (now 11, counting signees) Shocks -- also possibly what Marshall had in mind when he commented as he did on radio the other day.

Nevertheless, thanks for your efforts, AJ, and best of luck in the future.

        Transfer in, transfer out.

No more D1 ball for Hawk, right?

I've been a 'critic' of AJ since Nov. 1. From the failed expectations to the out-of-control play to the 'tude' that he carried with him at times. I just didn't think he was a good fit here.

With that said, good luck in the future AJ.

I was just gonna type that. I assume he'll end up at a fine D-2 school where maybe his type of play will be more valuable.

Again, since Cold isn't here, I'll ask. Was he forced out?

I assume that he has graduated (or will graduate in the spring) with the extra year, does anyone know if that is correct?

If so, with being married and done with school work, I can understand getting on with the rest of your life, especially since the fit never seemed right on the basketball court. Best of luck to him.

                  Getting interesting, isn't it?

What will Marshall do? Just what will Marshall do, with the added scholarship? Hmm...

:noidea: That is a good question..

But I am reminded of the great philospher of the 1400's, he was known as Greggimus Marshallian, and he said "You always shall be recuiting, for the future knows not what today will bring tomorrow" or something like that.

                    I feel good. :good:

                    Just think,

                    :band:

comes to town, and the crowd goes :thewave:

I want to wish Hawkins the best of luck in whatever he decides to do in the future. I think he may have seen a decrease in his PT if he would have stayed at
WSU. He had lost the starting job to Hatch in the post-season and if any of Coy, Blair, or Ellis can play the three. You could also put Murry, Kyles or Manigault along with Hatch in a three guard set. Could be that there is somebody out there just waiting for a scholarship to open up.

I hope we get something out of these transfers not just players that we have no use for.

                          Good luck AJ

So I guess this is what coach meant when he said there may be more.

I don't know AJ's situation, but if he does have a family, and is on schedule to graduate, this is likely the best decision for him and his family. Although basketball may be the ultimate for some, others have additional obligations that sometimes change their priorities. Best of luck AJ.
