  • Playing dominoes . . . coaching dominoes, that is

It's a game played nearly every March and April to the delight of some fans and the chagrin of others.

I'll start this episode off with suggesting that Calipari goes to Kentucky. Who does Memphis go after? Can they go anywhere but down at this point? Can anyone other than Calipari and "Worldwide Wes" sustain the success the Tigers have had in CUSA?

I think Travis Ford is an interesting name to toss around, then who would go to Oklahoma State?

Could it be that Ford would really leave OK St. after only one year? If so, this coaching carousel is getting to a really dangerous level, IMO.

Ford would leave for UK after one year.

Reports are that Memphis is willing to make Calipari highest paid coach in NCAA to stay.

No other serious talks going on.

Memphis paper reports that Calipari met with Kentucky officials on Sunday, but the Lexington paper says UK has not yet asked permission to speak with Calipari.

Personally, I think Calipari would have to have his head examined to leave a very successful program at Memphis, where he has everything going for him, to go to Kentucky who is doing nothing but living on their past reputation.

Plus, two years and gone, doesn't amount to a heck of a lot of job security.

LOL .... Does Kentucky have a jet? If so, lets get the tail number and track it.

I am more than surprised that Rick Pitino is being discussed for the Arizona job.

My sources tell me this not only has legs but could easily happen although with Pitino and his ego, you never know.

And thus the reason why Cal is talking to Kentucky. $$$$$

Oh no.......according to the talking heads this year proved conf usa isn't tough enough to prepare a team to win a national title.

Idiots! last year he was playing in the championship game. This year a sweet 16. Next year he has to studs coming in. I don't think conf USA matters much in the equation.

I think any potential candidate with any common sense will look at the '2 years and gone' issue with Kentucky. Creates a tremendous amount of pressure to perform and be successful. It also makes me think that Travis Ford would be willing to give it a shot over a Pintino or a Calipari, but, for some jobs, they can not pay enough for them.

Conference USA and Memphis does not have the television exposure of Kentucky. Calipari has a HUGE ego! Time will tell. If Cal does not take the Kentucky job now, all he has to do is wait another 2 or 3 years and it should be open again.

Ford would leave for UK and if he does it'll be interesting who they'd go after. Could he a Gillespie switch jobs? I'm curious to see where Gillespie ends up.

UK at this point isn't looking as desireable as in the past.

Pitino to AZ is interesting. Never would have thought that would happen but who knows. AZ has had some of its own issues as well.

Not only coaching dominoes, but just maybe conference dominoes as well.

If Calipari stays - Memphis makes him the highest paid coach. And he coaches a team from a mid-major conference...really?!?

Calipari goes to UK - Can Memphis attract the type of coach they want (and afford without big time TV money) and stay in C-USA?

Don't know how C-USA and, say, the Big East divide up tournament money. I'm sure the teams playing get the lion's share, but the remaining $s for 4 games divided by 12 teams isn't as good as 20+ games divided by 16.

As a side note, if Calipari goes to UK, I'm not sure but what the coach who takes on Memphis may have the greatest risk.
