  • Context...WSU>Houston

This has been a tough tournament for me to follow as I have been frustrated with the Valley. In general, I would say the national perception is that Houston has a better basketball tradition than just about anyone in the Valley. However, I ran into an article that talks about how they will no longer play in any post season tournament except for the NCAA's and NIT. Here is the kicker, The University of Houston has not played in an NCAA Tournament game since 1992. The school has not won an NCAA Tournament game since 1984. WOW, and we thought the Shox had a bad run in the 90's, they are starting down the barrel of going 25 years without a "W" in the dance. UNI's streak doesn't look so bad afterall.

Here is the article, be sure to read the last sentence as I find it hilarious and 100% typical of their coach.

Good. I dislike Tom Penders. He's still got a BCS mentality even though he's in Conference USA. I'm glad the writing is on the wall for this guy.

very similar past to WSU but with more recognition in the early 80's with Hakeem and Drexler. The schools are very similar but the fan base is not nearly as dedicated as the one WSU has. Mostly because it gets diluted with 4 million residents in the city, most of whom graduated from other state schools. I would bet they lost money hosting a CBI game and it's not worth it to them financially. There is almost no interest in UH unless they are having an outstanding season. I think Rice probably gets more local interest than UH.

            Big leagues

Houston suffers from the disadvantage of a lot of other urban schools -- in a city with a major league team, it's very rare for a local college program to get a lot of attention.

The Rockets are Houston's team, and always will be unless UH somehow corrals enough top local talent to be a serious national basketball force. It can be done -- see the example of fellow league member Memphis, which is helped by also being a recruiting hotbed (and not nearly as stocked with talent as Houston is) -- but it's pretty unlikely.

it also helps that Memphis the university would run circles around the Grizzlies. Not for long but now and in the past it was very likely. But I agree with your point. To a degree cities with major league sports really arent in the mix with college sports. There will be your rare cases but its typically the way it is.

Gotta like the women's coach, though. Joe Curl, some Wichita history.

I don't get why so many people don't understand the CBI. The CBI is the fat girl you hung out with your Freshman year.

She helped you get comfortable being with a girl. It was awkward as you weren't really into her, but it was better than being by yourself. You never talked to your real friends about her, unless of course you went all the way and then it didn't matter because that was more play than your friends were getting.

The next year you ditched her and moved on to the hot chicks. You knew that if things didn't go so well a few years down the road, you could come back but really you had moved on and your eye was on the prize and you were better at the game for it.

                  Don't judge me.

19-16 at half? Think any of the 3500 in attendance had suicidal thoughts?

Too bad Houston married her and now wants a divorce! Maybe K-State can go trolling for her next year.

I hate Tom Peters. He's the worst city council member in Houston.
