  • Annual STL Notes, Quotes & Billygoats

Another year and another great time.

Listed are the annual observations composed with the usual help from The Mentor.

Best Player - Osirus Eldridge. With apologies to Booker Woodfox, this isn't even close. The "O" show is worth the price of admission.
Worst player - Wade Knapp, MSU. Nice line - 4 pts, 9 minutes, 5 fouls.
Best Individual Performance (other than "O") - Shy Ely, UE.
Worst Performance by a good player - Josh Young, DU.

Best Coaching Job - Gregg Marshall, WSU
Worst Coaching job - Mark Phelps, DU.
Best player Nick Name - 'Ogre' - Jordan Eglseder, UNI.
Best Official Nick Name - 'Tailored Pants Man' - John Higgins
Player nobody wants to go against next year - Osirus Eldridge (Stinnett had fear in his eyes every time 'O' went against him).
Player nobody wants to go against for the next 2 years - JT Durley.
Player with worst personality - P'Allen Stinnett.

    Now the good stuff.

Best Dance Team- Once again, no contest - Illinois State. In fact, give them 1st, 2nd & 3rd place. They were that good.
Best Cheerleaders - An Upset - Illinois State. Not only good, but easyon the eyes.
Worst dance Team - Creighton. They just stood around and looked lost.
Worst dance team outfits - SIU. The black assorted outfits looked like they picked them out at the local Goodwill store.

It was good to meet SubGod. Hope to meet other SNer's sometime at future Valley Tournaments. 8)
Above all, make the right call.

Good times SR. It was good to finally put a face with the name and talk some basketball and officiating with you. Hopefully we'll see eachother again next year.

I also got to meet DUBulldog from VT fame as well as WeWillShockYou. I think that's right anyway. It's always good to meet a few new people.

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to talk to Doc. He wasn't in an easy spot to get to and I didn't feel like climbing over a bunch of people to say hi. It was good to see your young daughter enjoying her time though.

I have to agree with everything SR said about the tourney. Didn't hear either of those nicknames but the rest was right on. Especially when it comes to O. I really do love watching that guy play. He truely is at another level and can do it all. If I could have any one player from another Valley team at WSU it would be O hands down.
Infinity Art Glass - Fantastic local artist and Shocker fan
    RIP Guy Always A Shocker
Carpenter Place - A blessing to many young girls/women
ICT S.O.S - Great local cause fighting against human trafficking
Wartick Insurance Agency - Saved me money with more coverage.
Save Shocker Sports - A rallying cry

ShockRef and SubGod together while Sub State was going on? How ever did the KSHAA manage without you two?!!?!

(Look, it is 11:40p, I had some late nights this weekend, and the time change, this is the best I could bring. It isn't my A game but I'm just going to throw it out there and stand behind my work. I had something along the lines of lawyer jokes and a plane crash and good start but I couldn't make it funny and not just mean and if I didn't have you two to be my escape goats on refs, what would I do? Actually accept mistakes?! I THINK NOT!)

Seriously, as much as I'd love to work Sub-State in the future, I'm not sure I will work past the monday/tuesday games as the rest of the week is blocked off for the Shockers in STL.

          Sub,
The nick names were opinions of other fans we sat with. The 'Tailored Pants Man' was a comment from the wife of one fan and 'Ogre' was the infamous DuBulldog's observation.
The Mentor and I were in awe of the "O" show. He is far and away the best athlete in the league. We sat courtside on Saturday and could see the look on Stinnett's eyes when "O" had the ball and took him to the basket.
Stinnett had the look of total intimidation and wanted nothing to do with him. Quite simply, he was scared.

I forgot to add one item to the original list

Worst job by a guy getting paid - Timekeeper during CU/WSU game. 8)

You have to come over and yell in those situations. I got stuck in the cheap seats this year but never again. :good:

I was very disappointed in my own communication this year. I had every intention of meeting up with ShockRef and failed to do so....as well with a few fans from ISU....and I would have loved to have seen DuBulldog.

Hopefully next year will be a little smoother for me and I can enjoy a more relaxed and organized atmosphere.

We should only need 3 next year DSB

Doc, where were you setting? I looked for you but never did run into ya. I was first row on Thursday, but way back on Friday.

There was a ‘Dofo’ sighting in St. Louis… lets just say it explains a lot and in my best 'Forrest Gump' impersonation, "that's all I have to say about that!"

From what I heard, he represented himself there as well as he did here.

All I know is that kid needs to 'change the oil in his shorts' more regularly... like daily. Jeez!
You sure couldn't miss him with 'Dofo' printed on the back of his shirt... a 'you just had to be there' classic!
