  • TV for the first game?

I'm wondering about TV coverage for the first round of the Valley Tourney?

    Is somebody picking this up?

I saw that FSN only has the second through third rounds, and CBS has the championship.

    Can anybody verify this?

According to the Eagle, it is on radio only. :(

The play-in games are never televised. It will be radio only for those who are unable to make it to St. Louis.

It's a play-in game folks. I wouldn't call it mid-major at all. Unless your team is playing in it who can honestly say that they would like to watch the 7th-10th place teams from the MVC play on TV??

It's only considered a "play-in" game because of the way a 10-team tournament must be configured in order to get to a round of eight. If we had 12 teams, they would give the top four a "bye" and the other eight would play "first round" games.

It's really just the way they choose to label it. But it makes more sense than saying four teams have to play in the 1st round and six teams get a bye.

I don't think I would say it's just the way they want to label it...it truley is a play in game. I know many of you can remember more than a couple years ago, but the Valley Tournament didn't use to include all the teams. In order to open it up to everyone, there is now a play in game. You win the play in game, you advance to the first round of the MVC Tourny.

But let's be serious for a moment folks...who wants to watch the MVC play in game besides us? If you don't know the answer already, it's nobody.

Yes, it makes logical sense to call it a play-in round. But they can still call it whatever they want.

I disagree about the interest in the game. The fans of six teams will be interested - the four playing in them and the two waiting to play the victors.

I don't know if that translates to a TV audience or not. Clearly, those putting $$$ on the line don't think so.

If I weren't in STL I'd love to see the games on TV. This is the only Conference Tourny I care about and I'd watch every game I could.

But that's me. Luckily, I'll be there to watch them in person. And would be if we were playing in them or not.

I've been to a couple of the Thursday night games in the past that didn't involve WSU and I can honestly tell you with a straight face, there is almost ZERO interest in those games. Even the fans of the teams playing are lucky to have more than 200 each there. In years past, I don't know who would want to watch 5 - 25 Evansville vs 8 - 22 ISU even if your team is playing one of them the next day.

Well then what were you doing there? Couldn't resist the $12 beers? ;-)

I'm sure that is true at the venue. The lower team's fans aren't as likely to attend at all and the fans of the 1 and 2 seeds probably haven't arrived for the most part. But I'd bet it's a different story for those watching at home.
