  • Coach's Show - 3-2-09

I just caught a part of it when Marshall was discussing the new players for next year.

Blair - Loves the weight room and loves what he can do with the added strength. He's around 235 now. Has Ramon's motor and better shooting range. A Ramon-type player in a bigger body.

Coy - Is either a 3/4 or a 4/3. Has the skills to play 3 on the offensive end. If he's quick enough to guard a 3, he's a 3.

Mannigault - Just won a private school post-season tournament. Opponent had 3 D1 players and Mannigault was considered the star of the finals game. One journalist described his game as "NBA caliber". Can defend anyone. Finishes above the rim.

(I was going to post the video link to the highlights of the game, but it's already posted in the recruiting forum).

Hamilton - Marshall heard that Hamilton had 5 3's in one game. That's not why Hamilton was recruited, but if it's true, that would add an interesting element.

With him getting 5 3's in one game, he is a Shocker in more ways than one, especially in light of the previous discussion about his lack of shooting prowess.

About Hamilton - those were all Marshall's words. Marshall had not verified it, but that's what he had been told by someone who's been watching Hamilton's games this year.

If we win 13-14 games at 'home sweet home' and half of our road games, we are moving forward.

If we do that FSF, that should have us around at least 18 or 19 wins. Beating 'em all (or nearly all) at home and winning half on the road is a pretty good recipe for success!

I'll wait to be impressed by a "big guy's" shooting ability when I see it. It's one thing to shoot well in High School when you don't have to bang bodies with another bruiser, and it's quite another to shoot well in D1 when you are punished for 20-35 minutes.

The arms of a big man get very tired from boxing out, rebounding, and taking the majority of the contact in the paint. It's understandable when their outside and free-throw shooting sometimes suffers.

The fact that Paul Miller had such a terrific outside shot while playing all those minutes for us as a center is pretty impressive. I know he wasn't that physical but he still banged pretty hard at times. Paul was a VERY strong man.
