  • NIT?

If we win out the regular season and then win 1 or 2 in the valley tournament, is it possible?

I still hold out hope we can win the Valley tournament and shock the world, but if we fall a wee bit shy, where does everyone think that leaves us.

I know, I know, one game at a time, blah, blah, blah, aside.

If we won out and took 2nd at the Valley Tourney---then maybe---maybe not! However, if we matched the results above, one of the other Tourneys might pick us up. Now to the end is "OUR SHOCKER TIME TO PEAK!!!"

      prediction:
If we win out and win one game in st L we go NIT

If we win out and make the final game and make it a game, we may even host.

Now, if we win it all in st louis which we will, I don't think we will play in the NIT.

I think its going to take winning out AND making the finals in STL to get into the NIT, the Valley isn't going to be looking very good in many eyes thanks in large part to UNI

5th place in a weak Valley = No NIT.

I know the NCAA's say they look at how you finish as a factor. Not sure if the NIT does as well, but you'd think so. Yes, we may finish in 5th, but if we get to the finals, then we'd be finishing up 12-4. Surely that counts for something. Heck, everyone keeps saying if we make it to the finals, could we get in the NIT, well if we get to the MVC finals, we might as well just win it and go to the NCAA's!!!

The NIT would be a long shot. We might get in one of the two lesser tournaments though. After the way things started out this season that would be huge IMHO. Next year with a few more pieces added to the puzzle anything is possible.

Stupid thread with a .500 record and an RPI over 150. Let's focus on beating the Trees at home.

Ouch, that seems a bit harsh. There are no stupid threads, just people stupid enough to read them. Is that the saying?

It's so hard to make predictions with this team. It's easy to look like a fool when you do. In light of that, I think if we stay out of Thursday @ the MVC then we will play on Sunday and have a great chance to win. You can't underestimate the power of confidence with a young team which is exactly what they'll have going into St. Louis if we win out the rest of the season.

I think the NIT is a possibility if everything works out perfect. We own wins over Siena, Northern Iowa, Creighton, Illinois State, and now Cleveland St. We've (so far) finished out the season strong and are playing the best basketball of the season. Even if we don't make it to the NIT any kind of postseason is a plus for such a young team. I really hope we find a way to play postseason because I HATE THE OFFSEASON!

I as soon as I saw this thread I could help but laugh my arse off!

Let's be serious, there is a 0% chance that we get an at large to the NCAA or NIT PERIOD!

Maybe we can win out and lose in the championship game to get invited to the CBI or Collegeinsider.com tournaments.

Mr. Moose, you may be 100% correct, but if I have to choose between being wrong and being a jerk then I'll side with ShockerPrez.

                        I'm laughing, so I'm a jerk...

It's fun to be optomisitc, but look at it this way, we have a 150+ RPI. If we win out, we'd be lucky to get it to 100. The NCAA tournament takes RPI 1 - 40 teams (Give or take a few). The NIT takes the next 20 - 30 (give or take a few). We most likely need an RPI of 80 or better. Given our record, we actually would need a rpi probably in the 70 - 60 range to even have a shot. It's not going to happen. I realize RPI isn't a deciding factor, but it gives you pretty good reference for where you stand.

                          NIT

The NIT is pretty farfetched. It would probably easier for the Shocks to win their way into the NCAA, because that isn't discretionary.

Coach Marshall did say after the game that a good finish might get the Shocks consideration for what I believe he described as one of the obscure postseason tournaments, and he mentioned that the guys would probably like to keep playing. So they do at least have the incentive.

I suppose it's the gratuitous laughter that did it, something about those emoticons screams condescension.

If we win our next two games we end up with a 16-14 regular season record. Tack on only one win in St. Louis and we're sitting at 17-15, two wins gives us 18-15. Just think, had we managed to beat UMKC and Bradley @ home we'd be looking at an outside chance of a 20 win season. I'd say a 20-15 record would be good enough to get attention from the NIT selection committee...

BUT we didn't win those games and our RPI can be seen from the moon so, yes, our chances of a bid are minute.

I also remember a time not too long ago on this very board when people were laughed at for suggesting a finish above 9th in the Valley.

The SIU game @ home hurt worse than the Bradley game.
