  • Shocks vs Panthers Discussion/Prediction Thread

Clearly, UNI is the better team this year and will probably be a 5-6 point favorite in this game.

It's a given that we will need a big effort of support from Shocker fans and I think we will get that.

The Shocks will either need to have a well above average game offensively or force UNI into a well below average game offensively to pull off the upset.

The latter seems more easily attainable to me than the former. Question is what lineup gives us the best chance at acheiving this.

I for one would really like to see much more of the Murry, Kyles, Hatch, Clemente and Durley lineup than we normally do.

Looking forward to the game. Hopefully, the Shocks have a big game ready to bust loose.

Panther fans have already assumed this one as a W. Hope their team is looking at it the same way.

I am not counting on the same attitude from the UNI team. The have been very impressive with their ability to maintain their focus this year as their 7-0 MVC road record to date indicates.

Actually, we may need both an above average game on offense and hold them to a below average offensive game to pull of the upset.

I with you 1972Shocker, I think with a big defensive effort, we can knock them off their game. I just have a hard time thinking they are THAT good.

I think we can get this game.

Thanks, KC. Going back to your prediction of a 24-point home loss to Creighton, I'm counting on you to be using the same crystal ball this time, the one with the aforementioned crack.

No doubt the UNI team won't be thinking like their fans.. and considering they're gonna play in an environment that's about 20X better than their home environment during their banner season is going to definitely pump em up. I don't think we win this game. But I'm not gonna rule out the possibility of a major miracle. We can have off games against teams like EU and MSU and still win, but not UNI.

It is time for the crowd at Koch to step up and be the sixth man we all know we can be. Tueday's crowd was a bit sleepy IMO. We Can Win This Game! But the team needs us to all get off our butts and scream - for 40 minutes if necessary.

Here is how the Shocks could do it as follows:

                    1. FG% - 45%
                    2. Rebound margin - +6
                    3. Fouls + turnovers - <31
                    4. FT% - 100%

Just kidding about FT %. Make it 70% on the nose.

70% from the line is OK as long as we get our share of opportunities.

An interesting stat from UNI's blowout of SIU is that SIU committed 20 fouls and UNI committed 19 fouls and both teams shot an identical 83.3% from the line. Yet UNI outscored SIU by 10 points from the line shooting 20-24 vs 10-12 for SIU.

Not sure exactly how that happened, but it would appear most of SIU's first 6 fouls of each half must have been shooting fouls.

I don't think the Shocks want to make this a free throw shooting contest. That scenario definitely favors UNI.

I think fouls + turnovers need to be < 27 and rebound margin needs to be +10 or more.

We played with these guys for 25 minutes on the road before our season turned around. If we keep turnovers reasonable, put pressure on the perimeter shots and keep Murry, Clemente and Durley out of foul trouble, with our home court advantage we have a good chance at a win.

Denny, I think a more apt comparison would be one of a skunk drawn to boiled cabbage. :)

Hey, I predicted a 20+ win against MSU. Turned out I was wrong and thought they were going to be spanked. But really, we can't beat Bradley and UMKC at home, what makes you think we can beat the first place MVC team who is 7-0 on the road.

No one thought this team would go undefeated this year, losses are going to happen, I think this happens to be one of them. Gimme a break folks.

I think most of us would agree that we are a better team (at least at home) since playing Bradley and DEFINITELY UMKC. We have been an improving team since the "SWOMO Bottom".
