Denny Crane - How is Ryan Wedel part of this discussion? As he went to Arkansas State out of high school, it would appear all schools that were in an upper mid-major conference or larger also "missed". Normally, that's a good indication that you (WSU) made the right decision to not sign a player. On this board, many question why we are even looking at certain kids because of who else is looking at them or offering.

As to how Drake got him, I have no idea. I assume that many times when a school gets a player who's leaving another school, there are unique circumstanes involved or they were just in the right place at the right time.

I have no knowledge of Wedel's situation, just asking how you view, or possible consider, that we missed.

He is a Kansas kid that put up good numbers at a low major. We will see how he does at Drake. If he does well, like the others, then consider it a "miss" by us and others.

Wedel is the real thing...he would be the best shooter on the team. That was a miss by us and several others. He will be Drake's second leading scorer next year, bet on it.

Wedel shot 43% from the field and 40% from three land in 07-08 while playing for Ark. State. Good percentages, but not exactly lighting it up. Also, keep in mind, he played some VERY weak comptetition most of the time. Not saying he isn't a good shooter, but just giving another perspective.

If Arkansas State was the best offer he got out of HS, we did not miss here. Hindsight is 20/20. He may do very well at Drake, but that's after the fact. Apparently, he was too much of a "risk" for higher D1 schools.

Adrian Griffin is what I would call a miss!!! From what I understand, he even wanted to play for the Shox.

I think your definition of miss is different than mine. Not saying there wasn't good rationale at the time to pass on Wedel, just that he could have helped us. Just because Providence, Seton Hall or Tennessee didn't recruit Paul Miller and no one will blame them for it, doesn't me he wouldn't have helped them.

Anyway it's all speculation until we see him play in the Valley next year.

Someone who'd qualify as a miss for us in my opinion would be someone from KS, the KC area or OK. Obviously we won't land them all but if we don't pursue someone that ends up being really good then he can go into the discussion. That's why Josh Young fits into a total miss as he was never on the radar as far as I know.

Just curious, Sub, did you ever see Wedel play in summer ball or high school? I saw some video of him scoring like 19 points in three minutes once, but have never seen him play in person.

Adrian Griffin was a huge miss. I think it was Cohen at the time and he did not think he could play at the D1 level. How many years did he play in the NBA? Oh well we took a chance on Paul Wight.

The next miss could be Bryce Mayes from Oxford. Obviously not as good as an Adrian Griffin. Could be a very good role player. The kid can shoot the rock. He has started to receive some serious interest from other valley schools. It would be nice to have a spot up 3 point shooter on the Shocks next year.
